Tips¶
As an Apprentice, you’ll be mostly training in the West Grassy Plains and Elderwood, although a detour to the Waterfall Cave is required. To get to the Waterfall Cave, head east from the Crowned Champion’s house on Mt. Snowpeak.
Your new charged attacks (by holding the X button instead of the A button) can hit multiple monsters at once, so you should have an easier time completing the Challenges that require you to kill 10 monsters with them.
In general, the monsters you must slay aren’t difficult to find, but you may notice Splash Frogs are much rarer than Field Frogs. There are around three scattered across the West Grassy Plains, so you’ll need at least two visits to defeat five.
Once you reach the bottom of the Challenges, we wish you good luck with the Earth Wraith . This nasty piece of work hovers around the north-east corner of the Elderwood and is considerably stronger than any monster you’ve previously fought.
It has three attacks, which are all very dangerous for a flimsy Magician like yourself. The first has it swinging its claws, which can be avoided by staying away. The wraith will also cackle sinisterly right before it uses this attack.
Its second move is a rock blast, which it projects by swirling its claws around. This is best avoided by sidestepping and is the best opportunity to attack the wraith. Give it up to three blasts of magic before moving away.
Finally, on rare occasions, the wraith may hover into the air, rendering it invulnerable, before unleashing a rock slide in front of it. Don’t bother attacking as you don’t get a lot of time to do anything and instead heal your HP or SP if necessary.
Not an attack per se, but the wraith may cackle before moving quickly in a triangle pattern, in an attempt to evade your attacks and disorientate you. It can also recover HP by hovering for a brief moment and casting a magic circle below itself.
Definitely don’t be put off if you can’t scratch the Earth Wraith right now, as you don’t need to complete this Challenge to reach the next rank. If you intend to challenge the Earth Wraith, remember that water spells are your friends.
