Tips¶
Upon becoming a God Angler, you may think you’ve seen it all, but the game wouldn’t give you all those impressive God skills without something new to sink your teeth in.
Chat to the Fisherman Sage (you haven’t forgotten about him, have you?) and he will give you one final mission: to catch a Poseidon Swordfish in the Deepsea Cave. You’ll find the fish in question near the north-west corner, along the north side.
You may have reeled in the God of all fishes to get this far, but the Poseidon Swordfish is surely the Devil–a much, much more slippery fiend to capture. Definitely don’t underestimate this challenge and make the best preparations you can.
If you’re a God Carpenter as well, craft a Star Fishing Rod with an Other-Worldly Fin and a God Material (eg. Love Orb) to add All Fish Damage++ to your already impressive rod.
Finally, before you leave on your epic fishing adventure, you may find it extremely useful to charge your Special Skill gauge to the max (so it’s twice filled) by reeling in other fish, even Lordfish if you have to. That way, you can unleash your God skill at any given moment.
When you see the swordfish, you may sigh a breath of relief as you don’t need to fight a mini-boss… strangely, unlike all the other non-combat Special Requests. However you can’t fully relax yet, as the swordfish is a formidable foe by itself.
The main hurdle of this battle is the fact the Swordfish angers every other second. So you can spend ages trying to recover the line until it calms down, but when it does so it very quickly angers again, meaning you have little time to reduce its HP.
If you attempt to reel in the Poseidon Swordfish like a normal fish, it’s going to take absolutely ages to snag it, assuming you don’t run out of SP or patience. But like all good bosses, you can use a good strategy to makes things much easier.
Immediately activate your God skill and unleash your Special Skill to inflict heavy damage. From this point, keep using your charged attacks until your skill gauge reaches max, so you can use your Special Skill again; then rinse and repeat.
Although the swordfish will still get angry and cause the line tension to increase, while you’re in the middle of your (very long) Special Skill or charged attack, the tension will temporarily stop increasing.
If your timing is quick enough, you can inflict damage while impeding the rising line tension at the same time. That said, if the line tension goes past the halfway point, don’t hesitate to stop attacking for a while, until it reaches safer levels.
