Another day, another dungeon! As you beseech Elmoo to help you find a way into the Rendarak region, the turncoat monster will ask you to talk to his friend Roge in the cavern east of his cell. Do so and the childish man will mention some odd happenings in his hometown of Slewse and give you the "Floodgate Key" iconFloodgate Key, which will open the way to the Tower of the Moon. This page will provide a walkthrough for this dungeon, guiding you to all the treasures as efficiently as possible in Dragon Quest 2: HD-2D Remake!

Page Breakdown

Get the Floodgate Key from Roge - one of Elmoo’s friends,

and open the sluice gate in Slewse to create a waterway to the Tower of the Moon.

Tower of the Moon Location

The Tower of the Moon can be found on an island south of Slewse, but to get there you’ll have to sail upriver north of Beran to get as close to Slewse as possible… which isn’t that close, honestly. You’ll have to hoof it on foot through varied terrain, fending off powerful monsters en route to the isolated city. Once you arrive at Slewse, open the sluice gate along the northwestern edge of town to get the water flowing again and open up a sea lane that creates a proper, navigate route between Slewse and the ocean… and better yet, from Slews to the isle the Tower of the Moon is on!

Blast the Antlerkazam enemies into submission,

then head up the southwestern stairs on 1F to find a hidden Prayer Ring on the ground.

Before you can get to looting, head north and you’ll trigger a scene where a Peculiar Priest tries to lead some villagers astray. When the party’s intervention foils him, however, he’ll reveal his true form and attack, forcing you to fend off no fewer than six "Antlerkazam" iconAntlerkazam enemies. We nuked them with spells like Kazap, "Kacrackle" iconKacrackle and "Kaboom" iconKaboom - spam the strongest AoEs you have so they don’t get a turn to respond, or if they do, there will be fewer of them left alive to retaliate!

After the fight you’ll get a bit more chatter, after which you’ll finally be free to explore the place properly. The first floor isn’t all that sneaky - there are three treasures here, only one of which you can plunder immediately, the others requiring some detours. Before we get to that, however, head up the southwestern stairs to reach an isolated room in 2F and search the western of two large, decorative floor tiles to find a Prayer Ring (hidden item), then head back downstairs to 1F and venture into the northwestern corner of the level and loot the chest to obtain a "Moonwort Bulb" iconMoonwort Bulb. Go up the nearby stairs to reach the northwestern part of 2F.

Loot a Harvest Moon Scroll in the north-center chest on 2F,

then search near some stairs along the north-center of 3F for a Mini Medal.

From the northwestern corner of the level (where you entered), work your way south and east to the central room, then head north to find a chest with a "Harvest Moon Scroll" iconHarvest Moon Scroll inside, on a raised platform. Make it yours, then head down to a room in the southeastern corner of the level and descend them to return to 1F, where you’ll be in an isolated room along the southeastern corner of the level. Just you and a helpless chest… or not so helpless, as it turns out to be a Mimic. Defeat it, then head back up to 2F, return to the central room, then head into the center-west room and take these stairs up to 3F.

You’ll find that the entire northwestern part of 3F is separated from the rest of the level. Head north and loot a chest to score… a Mimic. Oh well. Go back downstairs to 2F and this time ascend the stairs in the center of 2F to reach the center of 3F. Make your way to the southeastern corner of the level (don’t fall off the ledge!) and search a decorative floor tile to find a Seed of Magic (hidden item), then return to the central room and head north and search the dead-end to the left of the stairs a Mini Medal (hidden item). Go up the stairs to reach 4F.

In the southwestern room on 4F you’ll find a Hypnowhip Scroll,

and a Scourge whip. A very good room for Peronel!

You’ll arrive on 4F near the westernmost stairs on this level. Head south to reach the southwestern room, where two chests await, one containing the "Hypnowhip Scroll" iconHypnowhip Scroll and the other the Scourge Whip. "Hypnowhip" iconHypnowhip can be taught to Peronel, where it can become one of her most potent late-game attacks, and the Scourge Whip is probably an upgrade for any dedicated whip-users, as well. Quite a generous room! Alas, the rest of this floor isn’t quite as charitable, so make your way to the northeastern corner and head upstairs.

Go down a series of stairs starting at 5F,

to reach the isolated room on 1F with a chest that… happens to be a Mimic. Bummer.

Search the northeasternmost chest on this level to reveal a Mimic, then head to the southwestern corner and plunder another chest to score 2x Magic Water.

Now it’s time for the big backtrack. Go down the southeasternmost stairs to return to 4F, where you’ll be on the previously inaccessible southeastern part of the level. Go down another flight of stairs to reach the eastern part of 3F, then down another set of stairs to reach the northeastern part of 2F. Finally, take the stairs down to reach the northeastern corner of 1F, where the final treasure we couldn’t get earlier awaits… and it’s a Mimic. Well, if you care about completionism you’ll take care of this sneaky monster, otherwise this is a big ol’ waste of time.

Backtrack up to 5F (if necessary), then go up the central stairs to reach 6F.

Defeat the Lunagriff,

then loot a chest in the northeastern corner of 6F to get the Spooky Aura Scroll.

From the stairs you came up (in the southeastern corner) make your way west, then north to find yourself in a fight with this dungeon’s boss - the Lunagriff! A boss potentially nasty enough to warrant its own page. When you defeat it (see linked page for strategies) you’ll claim the "Moonshard" iconMoonshard, which allows you to remove reefs on the world map, allowing you to access a few new areas. Before you go, be sure to loot a chest in the northeastern corner of the level to obtain the "Spooky Aura Scroll" iconSpooky Aura Scroll, which can be taught to Matilda or Peronel - an ability that boosts the damage of spells cast by the character.

With all those treasures in hand, you’re done with this dungeon!
