What could be more iconic, at least as far as Dragon Quest is concerned, than Erdrick’s Sword? The very same weapon that struck down the "Dragonlord" iconDragonlord! Well, slimes, obviously. There plushes, mugs, sticks, and all sorts of merchandise with that loveable blob’s smiling face plastered upon it… but nevertheless, this page will cover how to acquire "Orichalcum" iconOrichalcum and with it, Erdrick’s Sword in Dragon Quest 2: HD-2D Remake!

Page Breakdown

Find the mysterious figure dwelling in the depths of the Dragonlord’s Castle to acquire the Faded Blade.

Finding the Faded Blade

After obtaining a ship in Rippleport you’ll be free to explore the world’s oceans, with your next, most obvious destination being Alefgard. The king of Tantegel will ultimately refer you to someone dwelling in the depths of the Dragonlord’s Castle, and upon concluding this tense meeting you’ll be given the "Faded Blade" iconFaded Blade - the sad remnants of the sword that once brought down the Dragonlord. Alas, the power this sword once had has been reduced to a mere MacGuffin, but we can fix that… in due time.

Acquire the Ultimate Key

You’ll have to progress through the main questline until you make your way through the [Passage to Rendarak] and emerge in the Rendarak region, at which point trudge northeast through the snow to reach Rendarak Shrine. Talk to the Priest there and he’ll give you the Ultimate Key, an item you can use to acquire many treasures, not the least of which being Erdrick’s Sword. Alas, this is not going to be as simple as opening some random treasure chest - restoring this weapon is a bonafide side quest!

Find the Orichalcum

To restore Erdrick’s Sword we’ll need a hunk of Orichalcum, which you’ll learn about if you talk to the Swordsmith in the second story of Kol’s weapon shop any time after acquiring the Faded Blade, although you can’t act on this goal until you get the Ultimate Key.

With this device in hand, however, head to Cantlin and enter the center-west building, then head upstairs to find a locked room to the west. Enter it with your aforementioned new key and talk to the Scholar within who will mention a connection between a famous rogue named Robbin’ ‘Ood and the Orichalcum you seek, while also suggesting that one of this bandit’s many imitators may know more.

Next, travel to the church in Tantegel, head upstairs and open the western cell with the Ultimate Key, then talk to the Prisoner. He’ll confirm this connection and tell you that the Orichalcum can be found “in the very cave where he (Robbin’ ‘Ood) and the hero proclaims their eternal mateyness). If you played Dragon Quest 1: HD-2D Remake you should remember that this is the Craggy Cave, south of Tantegel.

Head to the Craggy Cave and go down the southeasternmost stairs to reach a small, isolated chamber (Craggy Cave - B2) and you should see something sparkly away just northwest of the stairs. Search it to obtain the Orichalcum you came in search of!

Return to the Swordsmith in Kol with the Orichalcum and he’ll repair Erdrick’s Sword,

turning it from a mere MacGuffin and back into a potent sword that can summon gusts of wind on command!

Erdrick’s Sword Location and Stats

Return to the Swordsmith in Kol and present him with the Orichalcum and he’ll set about demonstrating that his skill is up to the task of restoring the Faded Blade. Fortunately for us, it is! After a scene you’ll obtain Erdrick’s Sword, which boasts a massive 140 Attack and can be used in combat to cast "Swoosh" iconSwoosh - no MP cost, as many times as you wish without fear of the weapon breaking. Surely you can find a worthy home for this legendary weapon in your arsenal?
