Talk to the Priest in Rendarak Shrine to get the Ultimate Key.
Acquiring the Ultimate Key¶
Before you can seriously seek out the Mark of Erdrick or Erdrick’s Helm, you’ll need to get your hands on the Ultimate Key, which isn’t found until dreadfully late into the game. After surviving the Passage to Rendarak dungeon you’ll emerge into the snowy region of Rendarak. Make your way northeast to the Rendarak Shrine and talk to the Priest there and he’ll just… give you the Ultimate Key. Cool dude.
Return to the treasure room in Midenhall Castle - 1F and open the green chest to get the Mark of Erdrick.
Obtaining the Mark of Erdrick¶
Before you can get Erdrick’s Helm, you need to acquire the Mark of Erdrick as proof of your lineage. Odd how the
Mark of Cannock,
Mark of Midenhall and
Mark of Moonbrooke were relatively easy to obtain compared to this, but it is what it is. Return to Midenhall Castle - 1F and search the treasure room to the east. This could have been opened earlier with the Magic Key, but one green chest could not be opened until now. Open it up with the Ultimate Key and you’ll obtain the Mark of Erdrick, an accessory which makes the wearer immune to instant death effects when worn while also giving its wearer +30 Luck. Not bad on its own, but it’s mostly the key to even better treasure!
Talk to the Sage at Sanctum and he’ll get out of your way,
and let you take Erdrick’s Helm!
Erdrick’s Helm Location and Stats¶
Next you need to travel to Sanctum, an area on the southeastern edge of Alefgard, south of Rimuldar. Once there, talk to the Sage, who would have rather rudely rebuffed you if you talked to him earlier sans the Mark of Erdrick. Now bearing ironclad proof of your lineage, he’ll obsequiously skitter out of your way, imploring you to take Erdrick’s Helm. Oblige him.
This helmet not only offers its wearer a hefty 76 Defence when worn, but also increases the wearer’s resistance to sleep, confusion, bedazzlement, paralysis and instant death. Given how often late-game bosses are keen to use tricks like Sleep +
Persecutter or bombard the entire party with
Thwack, having some protections that shades RNG a bit in your favor is certainly welcome!
