All Souped-Up Skills in Dragon Quest II
As your characters level up, they’ll learn new spells and/or abilities, which define a character’s role in combat and using said spells and abilities will make up the vast majority of the strategic decisions you’ll make during battle. Needless to say, the spells and abilities each character has at their disposal is hugely important, and aside from leveling up you can also find scrolls that will teach your characters new spells and abilities. Divvying these among your characters is a hugely important consideration, and this page will provide the location of every scroll in the game!

Finding and Using Scrolls¶
You can find scrolls pretty much anywhere in the world, but sparkly spots on the world map, in chests, and on bookshelves are where they’ll most commonly be found, with thankfully few of them being hidden items. As long as you explore thoroughly and use Nose for Treasure to ensure you’ve found everything, you shouldn’t have much trouble finding them on your travels. Others are rewards for completing various “side quests”, usually informal collectathons like gathering Mini Medals or finding all [Living Memories]. If you miss anything, don’t fret - once you have the Snoop spell, you can use that and Nose for Treasure to effectively sweep areas, making it very, very hard to miss anything. Of course, even better, you can just use the table below to find all the scrolls in the game. They’re listed in rough chronological order (not accounting for that pesky free will business, of course).
Once you’ve found a scroll, just go into the menu, select “Items”, then “Item Bag” and look for scrolls. Select it, “Use” it, and a list of characters will pop up. Characters whose names are white will have the text “Can Be Learned” next to their name, indicating they can make use of said scroll to obtain the spell or ability thereon. You don’t have to worry about using scrolls on a character who can later learn a skill via leveling, but there are some instances where two more more characters can learn the same spell/ability from a scroll, a topic that’ll be covered on the [Master of Arts] page. If you want to be safe, don’t use any scrolls before you recruit Matilda just to ensure you have all your characters as options, or, with the help of the previously mentioned page, just plan ahead so you don’t use any scrolls you’d rather save for Matilda. Once a scroll is used it’s gone forever, and while the game won’t be unbeatable if you mis-use a scroll, it may shape your party tactics in ways you’re not keen on.
In any event, below are a list of all the scrolls in the game, their locations, and links to our interactive map, in case the text proves insufficient for your needs:

So to summarize, you will need to explore just about every area in the game thoroughly to find all the scrolls. You don’t need every single scroll to unlock the [Master of Arts] trophy/achievement, nor is every spell/ability you learn off of scrolls (or in general) something you’ll use regularly, if at all, but if you’re not vigilant you’re just as likely to miss something essential as you are something disposable.
In addition you’ll need to find all three keys - the Thief’s Key, Magic Key and Ultimate Key to unlock various doors and chests behind which scrolls may be hiding. You’ll find most of these keys during the story, and each time you find one you should backtrack through all previous areas (see the linked pages) to ensure you find anything you missed earlier as well as the new treasures you can get thanks to your key(s).
You will also need to find at least 40 Mini Medals to get a
Frizzle Scroll (15 Mini Medals) and a Focus Pocus Scroll (40 Mini Medals), find all seven [Living Memories] to get the
Multiheal Scroll from the Record-Keeper at the Faerie Palace (not to mention the
Ripple of Disruption Scroll from
Octavian, who guards one of the aforementioned Living Memories), defeat the [
Killing Machines] in the Seabed Storeroom areas to get the
Kaboom Scroll, Wild Side Scroll and
Sword Dance Scroll, and [defeat
Xenlon] to get copies of the
Critical Claim Scroll,
Channel Anger Scroll and
Power Puff-Puff Scroll (although only the last of which teaches a skill that can’t be learned elsewhere).
Simply put, you’ll have to complete a vast majority of the game’s content (including much postgame/optional content) to find all the possible scrolls.
