Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance

Armor Knight

By
Jarrod Garripoli
Portrait Description
Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance Screenshot Graduates of a military academy that trains knights to protect Nether Nobles. When they graduate, they are appointed to work for a noble and given a set of obsidian armor. Recently, the number of female knights has rapidly increased, and they now nearly outnumber the men.

The Armor Knight is unlocked as a playable class upon reaching Rank 3 Fighter and Rank 3 Brawler. The Armor Knight is all about defense and everything pretty much revolves around defending in some fashion. With its unique Evility, Hero’s Shield, it can take the place of allies anywhere on the map while defending. Add some of its other Evilities into the mix and it’s going to be hard to break the Armor Knight’s defensive wall. Because of this, they have a super high DEF aptitude, as well as a pretty high HP aptitude. They are best with spears, since that is their best weapon, which also has DEF as a secondary stat.

The Armor Knight eventually becomes good with an Axe, too, if you want to try out something different. To make them even tankier, they even have a skill that does an attack, then immediately forces them to defend. Their one Evility can force an enemy to counter attack, so there’s even more you can do with an Armor Knight than just defend. One thing you can do to mitigate damage more is get the Sludge and Horseman unique Evilities.

Evilities

The Armor Knight’s unique Evility is called Hero’s Shield, which allows them to protect their allies from attacks when defending. This happens across the entirety of the map, but they can only protect up to three times per map (some characters might get less than that), plus area-of-effect skills will only trigger Hero’s Shield on a single character, if more than one is targeted. Synch Guard, while defending, will decrease the damage taken by the number of adjacent allies by 10% each. Since the Armor Knight should be the one defending the others, this can be a bit of a blunder of an Evility.

Advance Guard makes it so when the unit is defending, they take 50% less damage. Needless to say, for any tank you make in this game, this is a must-have Evility. Hold the Line will make it so enemy units cannot enter within 2 panels of your position when defending. While this is nice and all, the goal of the Armor Knight is to draw enemies to your position and hopefully hold them there. Swift Stance will force your unit to always counter attack when defending. This is a great Evility if your character is quite powerful and can be nice in counter builds (it’s also great for helping to boost Weapon Mastery). The last common Evility is Defensive Stance, which will make the unit with this always defend when attacked from the front of side. With some of the other Evilities, you will almost always be defending.

Evility Slots Effect Req
Hero’s Shield Unique When defending, protect allies from attacks Default
Synch Guard 3 When defending, decreases damage taken by number of adjacent allies by 10% Rank 2 Armor Knight
Advance Guard 4 When defending, decreases damage taken by 50% Rank 3 Armor Knight
Hold the Line 4 When defending, enemy units cannot enter within 2 panels of this unit Rank 4 Armor Knight
Swift Stance 4 When defending, always counter attack (up to 20 times) Rank 5 Armor Knight
Defensive Stance 4 Always defend when attacked from the front or side Rank 6 Armor Knight
