This page details how to beat Alesis Hernandez, the second story boss in the Dead Island 2 main story quest. You’ll encounter this boss during Michael Anders and the Holy Grail quest in Monarch Studios.
On this page you’ll find all the information on how to beat Alesis Hernandez in the final boss fight, including advice on how to attack him effectively and how to deal with his attacks!
Alesis Hernandez Attacks¶
Alesis Hernandez is a hulking zombie that can spew out acidic vomit and cause toxic gas plumes in the boss arena. This zombie boss has two vomit attacks: one in which he projectile vomits with high accuracy at you, and one in which he vomits continuously for a few seconds right in front of himself.
He’ll utilize the first attack when you’re at long range. It’s pretty easy to dodge luckily, but he will use it quite frequently and in relatively quick succession so make sure to pay attention. If you do get caught in the projectile vomit, you’ll take toxic damage over time and also take a fair bit of immediate damage too.
The second attack is one he’ll use mostly in close range. This attack will also cause puddles of vomit on the floor and toxic gas plumes that will linger for a while on the ground. If you want to get rid of the puddles and the gas, use the rain FX and spider venom mechanical boards around the arena to dissipate the toxic AoEs. If you’re in close range during this attack, try to stay behind Alesis to avoid the spray.
In addition to his toxic vomit attacks, if you get into close proximity he’ll use his big arms to swing at you. Naturally, these attacks do a lot of damage so you’ll need to be on top of your dodging! bAlesis also has a grab attack and if you get caught in it, you’ll need to rapidly try to get out of its grasp or he’ll do huge amounts of damage.
And, all the whilst you’re trying to focus him, there will be several zombies in the arena, including a few runners. Luckily, Alesis Hernandez is quite slow so you can focus the ads first and then turn your attention back to the boss. You definitely don’t want to ignore the extra zombies!
Boss fight: Alesis Hernandez¶
For the first part of the fight, till you’ve damaged about a third of his health, you shouldn’t have to deal with any extra zombies in the arena. So, for the first part, its relatively safe to focus all your efforts on Alesis. You can try to guide him into the sets of pillars in two separate areas in the arena and then use the mechanical FX boards to turn on pyrotechnics. It can be a bit tricky to get him into the flames as he won’t really move into them whilst they’re switched on. So, you’ll need to guide him into the area first, then switch on the pyrotechnics. They’ll do a pretty decent amount of damage and if you want to double up the damage you could also get into melee range and hit him whilst he’s burning!
The pyrotechnics and the rain fx boards will be your best friends in this fight and you should be constantly moving around the arena to utilize the boards. When the hoard of additional zombies come in, you’ll want to make the most of the pyrotechnics by running around and guiding the ads into the fire or into the gas plumes/vomit on the ground!
Once you’ve defeated Alesis, you’ll have a final push to fight a pretty big horde of extra zombies, including some grenadiers. You can use the grenadiers to explode the other zombies by hitting them and disengaging. You’ll also want to use a long range ish weapon like a machete, axe or club/crowbar to hit multiple zombies at once to deal with the crowd quickly. This final portion of the fight might catch you by surprise so make sure you don’t get swarmed by the remaining zombies!
If you are struggling with your HP in this fight, you can find an energy bar on the table under the gazebo near the wall, and a med kit in the back building, through the door on the right.
