There are quite a few side quests to do in Dead Island 2. Many of these will introduce you to new survivors, all of which are quirky and add a bit more lore to the game. How to Start The Coast Guardian in Dead Island 2¶

In order to start this quest, you will at least need to have made it to Venice Beach. It will pop up on your map, down from the gym near the ocean. This is a great time also to grab the Cold Pork side quest from Trent at the Blue Crab as the two come together. You will want to head to the lifeguard shack right down from the police station. Once you get there, you will find it surrounded by zombies.

Wipe out the nearby zombies to speak with Burt.

Clear them out and open the door to meet Burt. Once you speak with him, he will send you to a few different locations to look for other survivors.

How to Complete The Coast Guardian in Dead Island 2¶

Once you finish speaking with Burt, head north to the police station parking lot. Be careful, as there will be four Bursters walking around. Hit them with a curveball to cause a chain reaction, and take them all out at once. This will sound an alarm on the police car that will summon more zombies. Slay them, and then you will tell Burt that there are no signs of survivors at the station. He will need to send you farther north to a small store called Venice Chicken that is shuttered.

You need to wipe out the zombies in front of the store and then press the button next to the shudder to open it up. Be ready, as a Slobber will be waiting for you inside, and the store alarm will go off, once again summoning another hoard of zombies to the area. These are decently easy to take care of, and you can use a gun to pick off the Slobber easily. Once you are done, be sure to go into the shop. There are some exploding masses of flesh, so use your curveball to set them off. Once they’re gone, grab the red chest, it contains the Crescent Blades weapon.

All you need to do now is head back to the lifeguard station, as Burt has now gotten himself surrounded by zombies. You will need to deal with a Crusher, Screamer, and a Butcher. Make short work of them and then deal with the Walkers and Runners. Once you are done cleaning up, go inside the station and speak with Burt once again to clear the quest.
