Infiltrate Bowser's Castle

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Well, it looks like Bowser has upgraded his castle to something a bit more extravagant over the years. Despite the weirdness, you can just waltz right through the front door, where you’ll meet up with a bunch of Goombas. Natural instinct, at least in this game, tells you to stack them, which will come to a tall ten-stack of them. With that stack under your control, head around the corner to find a button with “10” on it in the shape of Goomba. Step on it with the stack to spawn a Power Moon on the ledge above you, so release the capture to easily grab it (Stack Up Above the Wall) .

Before you leave for the next area, you will want to jump on top of the gate from the ledge where you nabbed the moon, as there are four purple coins there (4) . Once you get those, find the spark pylon and use it to get to the next area. The second area of Bowser’s Kingdom introduces a new enemy, the Pokio, which is one of the more useful captures, since you will be using it a lot. What this enemy can do, when captured, is poke with its beak by pressing the Y/X button. Not only can this beak break wooden crates and defeat a good number of enemies, but it will also penetrate certain walls.

While its beak is stuck in a wall, you can pull back in any direction and upon letting go, the Pokio will launch in the opposite direction. As an example, hold down on the left stick while in a wall and you will launch upwards; it’s pretty much the same as the other flick captures. There is another ability for Pokios, which is hidden. By shaking your controller while in the air, the bird will twirl, giving it a little extra air-time; this only works once per time in the air. Shaking the controller while flicking will also give you a bigger flick.

So, capture a Pokio and using the above knowledge, flick to the top of the wall. One of the first things you should see is four purple coins to the west (8) , but there’s another hidden thing in this little area. Go to the northern side of the roof and look below to find a ledge, with a Pokio and a Power Moon (Behind the Big Wall) . Once you’ve grabbed the moon, return to the top of the wall and use the spark pylon to travel to the third area. The first thing you will see here are two Spinies in a little pen area, with a note just outside of it.

Touching the note will spawn the smaller ones in the pen with the Spinies, so you’ll have to be both quick and careful in gathering them all before time runs out. Once you do, the Power Moon will appear back where the big note was (Taking Notes: Between Spinies) . Continue on to find what looks like a Thwomp carrying a large mallet. This enemy is called a Stairface Ogre and they will try to smash you with their mallet, but they telegraph their attack with a red outline on the ground. Once you coax them into doing this, jump on the mallet and then onto their head and perform a ground pound. Do this on the current Stairface Ogre and you will receive a Power Moon (Infiltrate Bowser’s Castle!) .
