You must defeat an Earth Eater to obtain a Desert Rose. These guys are the most powerful non-unique enemies in the game so you won’t have a chance of defeating one early in the game. Not until you are significantly strengthened from Day 6 or so (after completing pretty much all side quests) will you have a chance against one.

Goblots are found all over the Dead Dunes and you will easily gain enough Hairballs while exploring the Dunes.

Day 6 onwards is the most realistic time you can expect to kill enough Earth Eaters. Dried Scales will be acquired in sufficient numbers during your adventures through the Dunes anyway.

Lizards are found scattered around the Dunes. These little guys don’t require a full on battle to kill; simply swipe your sword at them and they will keel over and die. When they do, they drop either a Lizard Tail or an Unappraised Item.

Yellowed Skulls are dropped from the Skeleton statues inside the Temple Ruins in the Dead Dunes. They drop a load of them so just smash them up.

You can either kill Cactuar found in the Dunes above ground or Cactair, who is a quest monster for chapter 5. Cactuars are easiest to catch at the Oasis Lighthouse area because you can corner them and initiate battle from there. Other than that, they are super hard to catch.
