When you arrive, go ahead and speak with Kimahri to start up a cutscene. If you spoke with Kimahri in Chapter 2 and chose the second/third options as your choice in that conversation, you will get the Trainer Dressphere , and only for those two choices in that particular Chapter. Select the option “ Let’s go “ when given that choice to start up the next mission.
In this mission, you’re essentially supposed to stop Garik Ronso from attacking the Guado. In any case, your goal is to head to the peak of Mt. Gagazet, and you have to do it the long, hard (well, not really) way since the teleporters were messed with. The path is easy enough to navigate, even if you haven’t played FFX (it’s pretty linear). When you hit the Fayth Scar area, head into the cavern on the left.
Inside, simply head to the Save Sphere on the other side. Save and proceed outside. There, you’ll meet up with Garik and one or two of the Ronso youth: you’ll find different numbers depending on the answers given in Chapters 1 and 2 to the Ronso found over Mt. Gagazet. Having followed this walkthrough ( Chapter 1 - Mt. Gagazet and Chapter 2 - Mt. Gagazet in particular) will ease the difficulty a bit by forcing you against only Garik and one Ronso youth.

Garik is a pretty big threat in this fight. The main thing is his Mighty Guard, which will put Shell, Protect, Haste, and Regen on him and the whole enemy party, essentially halving all damage they take. You’ll also see a basic Attack, the Blind skill (induces Darkness), and Bane Lance (Attack + Curse). The Ronso Youth(s) are much simpler, able to do a basic Attack or remove all of someone’s MP.
There is a minor glitch in the battle system regarding Garik’s Bane Lance. What it does is deal daamge and Curse to a single target, but it will only target non-Cursed Black Mages; if there is a Black Mage that is not Cursed, then Garik’s default action is to use Bane Lance. As usual, that lends itself to a countertactic! Bring into the battle a character wielding the Gris-Gris Bag accessory who is also a Black Mage; the Gris-Gris Bag will immunize you from Curse, thus forcing Garik into using only Bane Lance (until that character is KO’ed).
That glitch is highly abusable: that essentially means you only really have to heal that Black Mage and to put Protect on them as they (typically) Defend every turn. With Garik effectively disabled, all you have to worry about is the Ronso Youth(s). They can be a bit problematic to magically-oriented offenses since there’s a 50% chance of them using MP Blowout to remove all your MP. However, to counter that, simply have a Songstress use Darkness Dance, making any of their attacks much less likely to hit. Granted, if MP Blowout does hit, you’re still screwed if you’re magically-oriented, so it’s better to remain physical. As usual, we favored Dark Knights for that.
That sums it up, really. Disable Garik with a Gris-Gris Bag-wielding Black Mage and disable the Ronso Youth(s) with Darkness Dance. From there on out, it’s a simple grind.
Winning the battle nets you a Wishbringer Garment Grid . The CommSpheres should already be installed, too, so you’re good.
