There are plenty of games that have quests separate from the main story, with the versions in the Like a Dragon series being called Substories. These separate little stories tend to be lend itself a little more to the wacky nature of the series. While some Substories are triggered as part of the main story, the rest will be marked on the map by a blue speech bubble, so it’s easy to find them on the map. This page will list all of the Substories in the game, as well as when you can do them.

Substories are nothing more than side quests, but can be quite beneficial to do.

You will find a total of 31 Substories in the game, with all of them able to be completed during Chapter 3 of the main story. There are six trophies/achievements tied to Substories in some manner, with one requiring you to finish 20 overall. It’s a good idea to do all of the Substories, though, as some of them reward you with good/great characters for your pirate crew. You do not have to finish all of them, though, to get to the Amon fight, so it’s entirely up to you.

List of All Substories

The following list will have all of the Substories in the game. All, but the final eight, can be done in Chapter 2. The last eight will unlock in Chapter 3 and can be finished then.

No Substory Location
Kamulop, Fortunes Unfolded Story-related
The Symbol of the City, Street Surfer Story-related
An Alo-Happy Rally Started during story
The Kitten in District Five Story-related
Stay Crazy Downtown; Just north of Alo-Happy secondary location
The Smartest Pirate Crew! Cultural District; West of Anaconda Shopping Center
Dragon Kart in Paradise Harbor Park area; End of pier there
The Fastest in Hawaii Clear all tracks for Dragon Kart
The Path to Speed Clear The Fastest in Hawaii
Snap Those Sickos! Again! East Aloha Beach; At the trolley station
The Sicko Snap Saga Clear all three Sicko Snap courses
The Magic of Food South Waikiki; At Soleil restaurant (order food to start)
Smile Again West Waikiki; Jeff’s Taco Truck
Goro’s Heart Harbor Park
If I Weren’t An Idol Downtown; Near orphanage
The Miracle Aquarium Next to western exit of Anaconda Shopping Center
The Miracle Aquarium Gaiden Harbor Park; Next to cooking station (Complete Substory 16)
Man of Bronze West Waikiki; Right next to West Waikiki St. taxi spot
I Want To Be Your Nadeshiko Aloha Beach
Hironobu Shigeta, 65 Years Old At small docks just west of Harbor Park (after starting Devil Flags story)
Coffee & Comedy Downtown; Cafe Soramame
The Captain’s Return East Waikiki; Next to Julie’s Gearworks (after getting Chain Hook)
Corpirate Compliance By Chinatown; Black Hibiscus restaurant (after getting customizable Goromaru)
When You Wish Upon Some Balls Started during story
My Dream Minato Girl Started during story (spawns next five Substories)
#MyNewFriend Crystal Aloha Resort
Hello, World! Anaconda Shopping Center (at arcade)
Can You Keep A Secret? Near Pigeon Family Market
Truth Shark Teeth Souvenirs (also need to complete Substory 7)
Lovely Traveler Anaconda Shopping Center
The One Complete Substories 26-30

If you plan to only do 20 Substories for the one trophy/achievement, then you can plan things out a little bit. You need five certificates from the Ounabara Vocational School, so that’s one Substory there. You’ll also need to complete all of the Crazy Delivery sources, as well as the three cups in Dragon Kart (another two Substories there). For the final related trophy/achievement, you’ll have to do all of the Substories involving the Minato Girls, so there’s another six. So, that’s a total of nine Substories from other trophies/achievements, plus the three done automatically during the story, leaving only eight more to do on your own.
