If you’ve played Infinite Wealth, then you are familiar with the Aloha Links mechanic and will be glad to learn it’s returns in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. For those who haven’t, Aloha Links is essentially you going around making friends with people, usually by helping them out in some manner, or by simply greeting them. Do this enough to fill up their bar and they will become Buddies, after which, you can pretty much safely ignore them. There are a total of 200 friends for Aloha Links, with all of them being contained to Hawaii, so you won’t need to hunt down anyone on other islands.
There are 200 Friends for you to find in Hawaii for Aloha Links.
You’ll first unlock the Aloha Links system once you reach Hawaii in Chapter 2 of the main story. Upon arriving there, you’ll be told to head on over to the Revolve bar in Little Japan, which is where you will meet Kei, who introduces you to Aloha Links. You first friend will be the Bartender, but all others beyond this have to be gotten by you.
Types of Aloha Links¶
Before you go venturing out to find all of these Friends, it’s a good idea to understand the different types of NPCs you will encounter. First and foremost, you are looking for NPCs that have a face emoji over them, which indicates they are part of the Aloha Links network. They will also have an empty gauge right next to this, showing you how friendly they are with you. Fully fill this gauge all the way to make them your Buddy, which will sometimes net an item from some of them, although not all of them. Other than that, there’s not much incentive to derive from going the extra mile to make a Friend a Buddy.
(1 of 4) A good number of the Friends will be people wandering around the various areas.
Type | Description |
---|---|
Wanderer | This Friend will simply wander around, so whether you see them or not is entirely up to chance. Thankfully, each one will have an area they walk around in, so you will never see someone from Little Japan in East Waikiki, for example. Simply wave to them with Square/X to fill their gauge. |
Performers | Similar to the Wanderer, but they are always in one place and don’t move from there. |
Victims | These people are being bothered by some bullies, so butt in and offer to help. Beat up the NPCs doing the bullying to increase their gauge. Note that it seems only Wanderers can be found as the Victims. |
Moocher | This group will stay in place and ask you for something, upon speaking to them. It doesn’t really matter all too much what you give them, although there are some instances where a better item will fill up more of their gauge. |
Animals | Same as the Moocher, but they are animals. Give them an item (usually Pet Food) and they’ll become your friend. |
Vendors | There are certain shops that also are part of the Aloha Links network. Simply buy an item (quality and quantity don’t matter) to fill up their gauge. |
A good number of the friends for Aloha Links will be Wanderers, so you are going to have to hunt them down. Some can be a little difficult to find sometimes, since it’s all up to chance, but you do tend to run into them more often than not. If you’re not using a guide or something, the stationary NPCs can be a little tricky to find, since they are only in one spot. Note that for those you give an item to, you can take a taxi somewhere else and return to their spot to reset them, so those NPCs tend to be easier for becoming Buddies.
Aloha Links Rewards¶
For the most part, the rewards from Aloha Links are few, at least in terms of reaching specific thresholds for Friends. After reaching a certain number of friends, Kei will send you a text and ask you to come talk to her. She will hand over an item for achieving the required number of Friends. Outside of that, you will need a total of 30 Buddies and 100 Friends to recruit both Kei and the Bartender, respectively, to your pirate crew. You will also receive rewards from some Friends, like the Animals and Victims, although it’s nothing too crazy and usually either cooking ingredients or plates to sell.
Kei will always send a text when she has a reward for you.
Friends Needed | Reward |
---|---|
5 Friends | Button-Up (Short Sleeve) |
15 Friends | Cargo Pants |
25 Friends | Sacrifice Ring |
50 Friends | Hannya Ring |
100 Friends | Heart Earrings |
150 Friends | Bandana |
200 Friends | Majima Sail |
The table above are all of the rewards you will receive from Kei. Since both Kei and the Bartender are great crew members, you should only worry about getting to 100 Friends. The remaining two items are just cosmetics for Majima and his ship, so they’re not really something you need, unless you want that 100% file.
