Substory 55 - The Filthy Cat

Substories are the wackier stories in the Like A Dragon series, to offshoot the more serious tone of the main story. You will first unlock the ability to do Substories in Chapter 2, although they aren’t shown on your map, so you will need to fully explore each map to find them. This page will give a walkthrough of The Filthy Cat Substory, in Fushimi.

Where to Start The Filthy Cat in Like a Dragon: Ishin

Upon reaching Chapter 4 of the main story, you will gain access to a second home, as part of the Another Life sidequest. Once you get to that point, you will unlock a bunch of Substories in other areas, one of which is this one. Head to Fushimi and head to the docks on the southern side of the area. Right next to where you can use the Boatman to go to your second home, you should see a cat sitting at the end of a board on the pier, with an option to look at it. Do that to start the Substory.

How to Complete The Filthy Cat in Like a Dragon: Ishin

This Substory is pretty simple, as there isn’t really all that much to it. When you find the cat, choose the option to Look at it to initiate a scene, where the cat will fall into the waters. Ryoma dives in after it, saving it, and appearing back on the pier. It seems the waters is dirty, with both the cat and Ryoma becoming filthy, so he decides to bring the cat to the bathhouse to clean it. You don’t have to do anything here, as all of the scenes will be automatic. After the cleaning is done, you will be done with the Substory.

How to Max The Filthy Cat’s Bond in Like a Dragon: Ishin

Similarly to other bonds, you will need to enter a building and return to the spot of the initial Substory to raise it. The closest building is likely the Teradaya inn, although the Komaki Dojo is also a little further past it. Return to the cat and you will do the same thing as during the Substory, where there game takes over while you wash it. This will keep up a few times, until the bond gauge is almost full.

The final time you go to the cat, you will find that it’s not there. However, you hear some commotion nearby, just to the east of where you normally find the cat. Go there to find a group of people, who are huddled around the cat. Ryoma chimes in, says that’s his cat, then takes him to the bathhouse one more time. While inside, you decide to take the cat to your second home, where it will become your pet; your bond will max at this time.
