Like a Dragon: Ishin

Substory 06 - The Mochi Mystery

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Substories are the wackier stories in the Like A Dragon series, to offshoot the more serious tone of the main story. You will first unlock the ability to do Substories in Chapter 2, although they aren’t shown on your map, so you will need to fully explore each map to find them. This page will give a walkthrough of The Mochi Mystery Substory, found in Rakunai.

Where to Start The Mochi Mystery in Like a Dragon: Ishin

(1 of 2) Go to this spot on the map for this Substory

Go to this spot on the map for this Substory (left), Look for the group of six men in a corner (right)

You will need to wait until Chapter 3 before being able to complete this Substory. Once you have control of the areas, head to the Blacksmith in Rakunai and look just north of it to spot a bunch of men standing in a corner. Approach them to start this Substory.

Picking the Culprits in The Mochi Mystery in Like a Dragon: Ishin

The man you talk to is a Doshin (basically, a police offer), while the other five men are being held as he questions them. The Doshin mentions that two of the five men have committed a heinous act, as they ate his daifuku mochi that he’d been saving all morning. The men were performing community service, when they snuck out behind the station to eat his food. The Doshin asks you to ask questions to the five men, as he’s too upset over the food to even think straight.

Your goal is to speak with each of the five men, to discern which ones are lying. Each of the five men will say something, then you have to see which ones are conflicting with one another.

(1 of 3) Speak to each of the men to hear their statement

  • Higashihara says that one of the guilty pair is Kitajima.
  • Nishiyama mentions that only Higashihara and Minamino had the keys to the snack room, so one (or both) must be the culprit.
  • Nakagawa says that he saw Minamino with mochi filling on his mouth, plus he was with Nishiyama the entire time. This gives Nishiyama an alibi (assuming Nakagawa isn’t lying).
  • Minamino mentions that he saw Nishiyama’s kimono with daifuku powder on it. He does stutter a bit, though, indicating he’s very nervous.
  • Kitajima says that either Nakagawa or Minamino is guilty, but not both.

Yoiu can try to figure out the two culprits from the clues above, but if you just want the answer to this Substory, click the spoiler link below. Speak to the Doshin and tell him you’ve figured it out, then speak to the two culprits, accusing each one.
