Like a Dragon: Ishin

All Bonds in Gion

By
Nathan Garvin

Starting in Chapter 3 you’ll be able to visit Gion, the entrance to which is east of Rakunai, across the Shijo Bridge. To access this area you’ll first have to head west of Shijo Street to meet with the Shinsengumi, culminating in a boss fight with Nagakura Shinpachi, following which you’ll be summoned to Gion to meet with Hijikata. You’ll be able to travel to Gion from this point forward, where you can start establishing bonds with various NPCs there. This page will cover how to establish and maximize bonds in Gion in Like a Dragon: Ishin!.

Bond with Kitchen Aoba Chef

A pretty straight-forward bond, you’ll find the Kitchen Aoba Chef in Kitchen Aoba, south of the road in Gion. Like more merchants, you’ll increase your bond by doing business with the NPC, in this case buying one of the meals this restaurant offers. The value of the transaction doesn’t matter, just the number of distinct transactions made, so you’ll just have to keep ordering food to increase this bond. There’s not a whole lot of variety in terms of price, the cheapest dish is 500 mon and the most expensive is 750 mon, so you might as well grab one of everything to make progress towards the achievement I’ll Have One of Everything, then just keep buying the cheapest dish - Sobagaki - to further increase your bond.

Raise your bond to around 50% and after a meal the Kitchen Aoba Chef will decide to thank you by preparing a special meal, but to gauge what type of dish, exactly, he should prepare he’ll defer to Ryoma. You can pick three different options:

  • “Food that warms me up inside.”
  • “Food with lots of ingredients.”
  • “Food that’s simple to eat.”

Your choice here doesn’t matter, so pick what you want and on a subsequent visit you’ll be served whatever meal you picked. This will also max out the remainder of your bond with the Kitchen Aoba Chef, earning you the standard 2,250 Virtue.
