Like a Dragon: Ishin

Substory 53 - The Frequently Lost Courier

By
Nathan Garvin

Having a poor sense of direction is a bad enough shortcoming on its own, but when you’re a courier it’s downright crippling! Help the Frequently Lost Courier get his bearings in Substory 53 - The Frequently Lost Courier in Like a Dragon: Ishin! and start a bond with The Frequently Lost Courier in the process.

Seek out The Frequently Lost Courier east of Teradaya, (left), and talk to the afflicted man to learn about his ironically poor sense of direction. (right)

How to Start the Substory The Frequently Lost Courier in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

East of Teradaya inn in Fushimi you’ll find the Boatman who will take you to Mukurogai. South of this is a shrine, near which you’ll find a “Frequently Lost Courier”, an NPC you can talk to in Chapter 3 to start Substory 53 - The Frequently Lost Courier.

Now that you’ve started this quest, you’ll have to put some distance between yourself and where you talked to The Frequently Lost Courier in order to get him to spawn again. Unfortunately, the usual trick of simply entering and exiting Teradaya isn’t sufficient this time around (must be too close?) but heading north up Kuramachi to the shrine should do the trick. Return to the smaller shrine east of Teradaya to find The Frequently Lost Courier standing back in his usual spot and talk to him again only to discover that your previous directions didn’t lead to a productive result. Ryoma will tell The Frequently Lost Courier the directions again, and our directionally-challenged friend will once again scamper off.

Repeat the process above one more time - get some distance by heading to the large shrine to the north, then return and talk to The Frequently Lost Courier. This time your directions helped him reach his destination, but he’s got numerous packages, and with his difficulties, getting them all delivered in a timely manner doesn’t seem likely. In the face of ruin, Ryoma will intervene and offer to deliver some packages for The Frequently Lost Courier. His own business sees him wandering around Kyo anyways, might as well do a good deed while you’re at it?

Return to talk to The Frequently Lost Courier several times until Ryoma offers to deliver some packages for him.

You’ll be given a Courier’s Package and the Substory will… end. Yep, actually doing any legwork isn’t part of this Substory, but it is part of the [Bond with Frequently Lost Courier], the substance of which is delivering packages. When you pick up a parcel, The Frequently Lost Courier will tell you the recipient’s name (which is useless information) and the location (the region of the city, seen by hovering the cursor over streets, i.e. Fushimi Ichibangai, Yashikimachi, Kuramachi, etc.). All you have to do is head to the region specified and look around for an NPC standing around - when you’re close you’ll get some floating text mentioning the package. Talk to them and you’ll earn 5,000+ mon, after which you can return to The Frequently Lost Courier to earn some bond and pick up another package.
