The process of reading in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not only something which benefits Henry as a character, it benefits you as a player, too. The more Henry reads, the more his skillset is enhanced which allows him to take the initiative in anything that is thrown at him. By the same token, you will find that the Quest Log and Codex tabs in the main menu will provide you with bundles of useful information. Some of this information is helpful to the process of immersion in the world of fifteenth century Bohemia. Other information is essential to the process of completing quests without missing any of the details.

Taking the time to make a habit of reading all of the information stored in the Quest Log and Codex will not only improve your knowledge and experience of the game, it will allow you to stay informed about quest objectives that are not always easy to notice. This is particularly important to keep in mind in a game which has limited save functionality due to its emphasis on realism.
