Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut

Hidden Cove Bokken Tournament

By
Ben Chard

The Hidden Cove Bokken Tournament is a Tale in the Iki Island Expansion for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. This is completely optional but if you’re aiming for all Trophies, must be completed towards that goal. This is a series of four duels in which the first to score 5 hits wins.

The Hidden Cove Bokken Tournament is available in Fune’s Refuge.

How to win all of the Duels

Before you can begin the tournament, you must first complete the Jin from Yarikawa Main Tale. Once complete, head towards Fune’s ship in the corner of Fune’s Refuge and you’ll find a large dueling ring where you can begin this Tale.

These Duels are slightly different to the ones you’ve already experienced in Ghost of Tsushima, the goal isn’t to kill your opponent, more so the first to achieve five hits against their opponent. To begin with, these may seem incredibly tough to win but every one of your opponent’s has a weakness and you must exploit that in order to achieve victory. To discover these, look below:

Brutal Raider

This Duel against the Brutal Raider is all about using your Dodge to your advantage, otherwise you won’t win. The Brutal Raider will use a series of unblockable attacks, and you must dodge and counter with a slash of your own to score points.

(1 of 2) Wait for the Brutal Raider to use an unblockable against you

Wait for the Brutal Raider to use an unblockable against you (left), and dodge at the last minute to strike him from behind. (right)

Exiled Monk

The duel against the Exiled Monk is a little trickier, you’ll have to fend off his attacks and then counter with the Moon Stance’s kick and slash attack. Wait for him to perform a kick on you and then dodge backwards, followed by [TRIANGLE] and [SQUARE] buttons to use a kick and slash of your own. Alternatively, if you time it right, you can use the Shoulder Charge, [CIRCLE] while dashing, to stun him and follow up with a slash.

(1 of 3) You’ll need to stun the Exiled Monk with a kick from Moon Stance

Murderous Merchant

This duel against the Murderous Merchant is by far the toughest yet and her tactics will change after you score your first three hits. For those first three hits, you’ll need to score a Perfect Parry on her, using Parry at just the right moment and following it up with a slash. After those first three points, you’ll need to break her guard so attack her a few times and follow up with a jump attack or play defensive yourself, wait for her to finally attack you and follow up with a Parry.

(1 of 2) You’ll need to perform a Perfect Parry for the first three points

You’ll need to perform a Perfect Parry for the first three points (left), then, after striking her once, use a Jump Attack for the last two points. (right)

Crimson Fisherman

The final duel unlocks once you have beat the other three and is against Sao, the Crimson Fisherman. Your final opponent uses tactics from all of the other bouts and you’ll need to put to use the knowledge gained from those to deal with it. The easiest wait to deal with him is to Dodge and counter slash his unblockable attack or wait for the stab that comes at the end of that attack string and Parry it.

(1 of 2) The Crimson Fisherman will use lower spinning unblockables against you

The Crimson Fisherman will use lower spinning unblockables against you (left), wait for this moment to dodge and counter him. (right)

Your reward for beating all opponents is a Sword Kit, the A Few Splinters Trophy and the opening of a new Crimson Dye merchant here in Fune’s Refuge.
