Grounded

How to Access the Oak Lab

By
Scott Peers

This page details everything you need to know about the Oak Lab, which is the first place where you encounter the friendly robot named BURG.L. You’ll be prompted to explore the Oak Lab after completing The Mysterious Machine, and you won’t be able to access it until you’ve done that quest.

Investigate the Oak Tree Explosion

The Oak Lab is probably the first lab that you’ll encounter in the yard, and it’s also one of the easiest to find. All you need to do is look up, find the large oak tree with the red / orange leaves, and head towards the base of the tree. You’ll see some pink vapours surrounding the tree after the explosion. You should use these as a guide to find the entrance to the lab. You can run over the branches and leaves as you approach from the west side of the tree, then drop down to the entrance. Alternatively you can enter it from the ground from the east, where you’ll find an entrance just west from the edge of the pond.

Find and Speak with BURG.L

Once you’re inside the Oak Tree lab you can go down the hallway to its depths. You’ll soon find a room with an analyser in it, and you’ll find a button which you can press to open a door to the right of it. Go through this door and loot the sap on the shelves to your left, then keep moving through the lab until you encounter a robot on the ground. This is BERG.L, and you’ll need to interact with the robot to help them up.

Use the Biometric Scanner at the ASL Terminal

Now that you’ve revived BURG.L you can speak with them to learn more about the lab, why the robot is there, and a bit more about their creator, Dr. Tully. Go through all the dialogue options until you’re asked to use the Biometric Scanner at the ASL Terminal. On the way, be sure to run into the pink blobs floating in the rooms, which will give you Raw Science points.

(1 of 5) Reach the source of the pink vapours to find the entrance to the Oak Lab.

Purchase Upgrades in the Science Shop and Accept Quests

After using the Biometric Scanner, look to the left of it and interact with the ASL Terminal. Here you can purchase upgrades at the Science Shop using Raw Science, such as recipe packs or new mutations. Most of these will be too expensive for you at this point, but you should at least be able to purchase the Smithing Station. You can come back here to use other terminals to purchase additional upgrades when you earn more Raw Science.

While you’re here, you can also accept three new side quests:

  • Hunter: "Gnat" iconGnat
  • Explorer - Great Oak Beacon
  • Explorer - Trowel Gulch

The Hunter: Gnat quest is a repeatable, and you an return here every 24 hours to get new repeatable quests. The Explorer quests aren’t repeatable, but you’ll still need to complete them if you want to acquire more the next day.

Find the Mega Milk Molar in the Oak Lab

At this point you’ve discovered most of what the Oak Lab has to offer. However, before you leave you should look for another Biometric Scanner next to a locked door, in the room just through the door to your right from the analyser. After using the scanner the door will open, revealing a power room. You’ll find a Mega Milk Molar in the close left corner of this room, which provides you with an upgrade such as Max Consumable Stack Size, Max Resource Stack Size, or Max "Arrow" iconArrow Stack Size. You’ll need an "Insect Hammer" iconInsect Hammer to open these, so be sure to come back here once you’ve crafted it.

(1 of 5) You’ll find some Raw Science in the Oak Lab in the form of these pink orbs. Be sure to loot them wherever you find them!
