How to Turn Off the Haze Gas in Grounded

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a guide on how to turn off the Haze Gas in Grounded.

Can You Get Rid of the Haze?

The answer is yes! That horrible hazey, gassy area to the southwest can be cleared up in the later portion of the game. This’ll mean you can traverse through this area without either wearing a gas mask or dying to the haze gas. Unfortunately, all the infected creatures will still spawn but this does mean that you can still harvest fungus growth which is needed for a variety of recipes so it’s not that bad!

You can clear up the Haze!

How to Get Gum Nuggets

Before you can stop the Haze you’re gonna need some gum nuggets. "Gum Nugget" iconGum Nuggets can be obtained from the resource room in Black Anthill Lab or you can shovel gum from the bottom of various things in the Yard. Head over to our map for all gum locations!

In order to get gum nuggets from clumps of gum, you’re gonna need a Tier II "Black Ant Shovel" iconBlack Ant Shovel. You’ll need to have found the Black Anthill to locate "Black Soldier Ant" iconBlack Soldier Ants that drop the mandibles.

Once you have the Black Ant Shovel, you can use it to collect Gum Nuggets and Buried Treasure in the Sandbox!

Use your new black ant shovel to get some gum nuggets!

How to Get Rid of the Haze

In order to get rid of the Haze, unfortuntately you’re gonna have to go back into the Haze, which will require a gas mask. You’re going to first need to head into the central area and locate the wooden porch. Head up onto some rocks nearby and you’ll find a stick leaning against the bench. Take the stick all the way up and then cross the bench to reach the nozzle of the weedkiller. Traverse the nozzle all the way to the top and locate the hole on the left side of the canister. This is where the toxic gas is leaking from!

(1 of 2) Head up the nozzle to the top of the gas canister

Head up the nozzle to the top of the gas canister (left), then block up the leak with some gum! (right)

You can now place one of your gum nuggets into the gas canister hole to stop the leak. This will clear up the Haze and you can now roam this area freely without a gas mask - yay!
