This page offers a step-by-step guide on how to complete the Hedge Lab in Grounded. This will include a walkthrough on how to find all the password pieces and how to find the Hedge Lab Super Chip.
How to Reach Hedge Lab¶
Before you can complete Hedge Lab, you’ll need to actually get there! Head over to our guide on How to Reach the Hedge Lab for a detailed walkthrough!
Arriving at Hedge Lab¶
The first thing you’ll want to do is explore the first room. There’s a chest near the entrance that can be looted for an Omelant and some Marble and Quartzite shards. Next, you’ll want to pick up the tape from the desk and listen to the recording whilst you use the biometric scanner to activate the Hedge Lab system. After holding your hand on the scanner, interact with the pc to the right. You’ll soon discover that you need a password.
On the window, behind the computer, you’ll see the word ‘password’ written on a piece of paper. Unfortunately, the rest of the note seems to be missing, meaning you need to go out and find the password pieces so you can unlock the computer!
How to Find the Terminal Password in Hedge Lab¶
Firstly, you’ll need to head up the ramp behind the computer. As you approach the top, you’ll need to cut down the spiderwebs blocking your path. Once you’ve cleared the spiderwebs, the door will open and you’ll be greeted by an Orb Weaver Jr spider. It isn’t a full blown spooky spider, but it is bigger and scarier than the spiderlings you saw on the way up to Hedge Lab.
How to Defeat the Orb Weaver Jr in Hedge Lab¶
If you’re confident in your fighting abilities then fight the spider in close combat and make sure to block his obvious attacks. If, however, you’re a bit on the weaker side, you may want to do this in a bit more of a strategical way. You can either move further into the room and try to knock him off the edge of the balcony to the right (near the zipline), or you can get him to tail you all the way down to the entrance of Hedge Lab where you can push him off too. This is a tricky strategy but it means you avoid having to go full on melee combat with it and can be useful for beginners. And you can be rest assured that however you deal with the spider, it’ll never ever respawn!
After dealing with the big spider, you’ll need to take out a couple of spiderlings - as always, make sure to avoid hitting the spider eggs unless you’re in the market for spawning in more spiders! Once this room is cleared of all spider pests, you’ll find the first piece of the password - 58 - on the far side of the room!
Next, after picking up the password, you’ll need to head to the right side of the room to find the door covered in cobwebs. Make sure you pick up the resources on the tables before you leave.
How to Fight the TAYZ.Ts¶
You’ll need to clear the cobwebs to open the door - be prepared as you’ll be greeted with a TAYZ.T robot. These are the easier of the robot enemies as you can anticipate their attacks and either block or back away!
There are three TAYZ.Ts and one RUZ.T in this area but so long as you don’t walk further into this room initially, you’ll only have to fight them one at a time. Just don’t frantically run through this long room or you’ll have to fight them all at once and that’s when it can get nasty!
At the end of this room, you’ll find some Raw Science and some berry chunks. After exploring this area, take the zipline. Half way down the zipline you’ll bang into a branch. You can jump back onto the zipline and continue to the room at the end. This room can be pretty dark and you’ll need to watch out for the hole in the floor! The hole in question is right in front of the next password piece - t19 - and can easily catch the unsuspecting player out. After picking up the password, however, you will actually need to drop down into the hole below. It’ll bring you onto some branches and mushrooms below, and you’ll need to traverse over to a lab tunnel near the main trunk of the tree.
Follow this path up and you may be greeted by another TAYZ.T robot (depends on whether he was aggro’d earlier). Take the tunnel on the left that heads all the way up. In this next room, you’ll be greeted by a spiderling and a whole host of materials! Hopefully your pockets aren’t full as you’ll want to take home some of the new resources you may not have seen before! There are brittle shards in here which are important for upgrading materials.
Once you’ve lined your pockets with as many materials as you can, take the zipline down. It’s important that you drop off the zipline early so that you land on the roof of the lab! Drop down through the narrow opening on the roof and you’ll find some more spiderlings and the next piece of the password - y-. Before leaving this room make sure to pick up the tape on the table.
Take the corridor down and destroy the spiderwebs. This will open up a door to the room where you fought off the Orb Weaver Jr. You’ll need to find the open side with a zipline that heads into another room below. Before you can take the zipline all the way you’ll need to destroy the berry blocking the zipline’s path. You can either do this by throwing a weapon (be prepared to probably never get it back), shoot at it with a bow, or you can jump down hit the berry then make your way around using the branches to the zipline again.
In this room, you’ll find another couple of spiderlings and the final password piece - -ur. Some players may also find an orb weaver jr in this room as well (I didn’t), and if that’s the case then you may want to try to tactically shove it out the entrance rather than fight it to the death. At the other end of this room you’ll fimnd the SCA.B scheme, Ghostmint.
To exit this room and return to the main room of the lab, destroy the spiderwebs blocking the door and take the tunnels back up to where you fought the TAYZ.Ts and then through to the spider room and finally back to the first room with the computer.
Input the password to open up the door behind you where you can find the Superchip and a tape. In the early access, players could obtain a gas mask from this area but full release players will get no such luxuries!
You’ll need to return the superchip to BURG.L in Oak Lab. And to do so you can traverse the lab tunnels and branches all the way down to the forest floor and locate the newly opened tunnel that takes you through the stone wall and out to the main yard again - watch out for spiders near this tunnel though!
