Grand Theft Auto V

Getting Started

By
Claire Farnworth

Beat Lamar!

Once you’ve started GTA Online, create your character, then enjoy the introduction. After the scene has come to a close, you’ll face Lamar in a quick race. Here it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, so just have fun!

Go to the meeting / Steal the Drugs

Upon finishing the race, drive to the meeting point and take cover. Defeat the gang before stealing the drugs, then take it to Gerald’s House to complete the mission.

Making Money

Before you start acquiring cars and houses in GTA Online, you’ll need to make a little cash first. Refer to the How to Make Money page for methods on how to earn money quickly in GTA Online.

Acquire your first car

Once you’ve gotten access to the open world, steal any low-end vehicle off the street, then take it to Los Santos Customs and put on a Tracker/Full Coverage. This will then make it your personal vehicle, so no one can steal it and you can request a new one if it gets destroyed.

Purchase a Garage

Upon acquiring $25,000, open up the Dynasty 8 Real Estate on your phone and purchase the Unit 124 Popular Street Garage. Owning a garage will allow you to call up a mechanic to deliver your vehicle to any location on the map.

Get Equipped!

Next up you’ll want to acquire some weapons, so head to the Ammu-Nation Store and purchase a Carbine Rifle to help you in missions. Before leaving, be sure to stock up on sticky bombs, as they’ll make robbing armoured vans a lot easier.

Purchase a High-End Apartment

Your next big task in GTA Online is to save up for a High-End Apartment which will cost you around $200,000. To do this, you’ll want to join races, heists and missions. Upon purchasing the apartment you’ll gain access to a heist planning board which will allow you to setup your own heists.

This allows you to choose how much of the cut the crew cuts gets, so make sure you give yourself a little extra cash as you’ll be paying the setup cost along with earning nothing from the setup missions.
