Best Armor Locations and Stats - Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

By
Nathan Garvin

When it comes to gear in video games, weapons always occupy a prominent spot. And for good reason - they make enemies deader quicker, which in turn makes your party stronger and richer. It would be a mistake to neglect the utility of armor, which helps prevent enemies from outliving your own party members long enough for them to put their aforementioned to use. This is especially true against some of the stronger bosses in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, as these fights aren’t going to be won by an overwhelming display of power alone. To that end, this page will list the pieces of armor in the game while also providing instructions on how to get your hands on them.

Best Six and Seven Star Armor in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Armor is pretty straightforward in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth; there are three types of armor in the following categories: Head, Body, and Legs. Generally all types of armor give bonuses to Defense and Willpower, which lowers physical damage and magic damage taken, respectively, with body armor typically providing bigger bonuses than head and legs armor. That said, like other gear, some types of armor give bonuses to different stats and may even provide special effects. Most six and seven star gear yields roughly equivalent stat bonuses since there’s rarely a “super” piece of armor that has dramatically inflated stats compared to something else with a comparable star count. That being the case, there are many instances where the special effects on armor make or break said armor, and it’s fortunate that there are usually alternative bits of armor you can wear when the “ultimate” armor for a character or class isn’t quite up to snuff.

Best Head Armor in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

There’s not a whole lot of good six and seven star head armor in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and nothing that could be considered “ultimate” gear for various jobs or characters as with body armor. That said, there’s still a bit of variety to choose from:

One of the rare pieces of armor you can buy that's potentially worth wearing late game, the Feathered Lei Hat has good all-round stats and boosts the wearer's evasion.

Feather Lei Hat

A surprisingly good bit of headwear you can purchase early in the game… if you get enough money. With solid stats and a useful +10% boost to evasion, this will certainly help keep you alive, especially against physical attackers.

Armor ATK MAG DEF WLP AGI Special Effects Location
Feather Lei Hat 54 44 Buffs Evasion by 10%

Knight Helmet

This helmet has the highest base defensive stats in the game… by a single point of defense. It sacrifices any special effects to enjoy this trivial statistical advantage. You’ll get one every time you defeat the Sector 3 midboss in "Yokohama Underground" iconYokohama Underground.

Yaaar! If ye want more booty after battle, wear the Pirate Hat!

Pirate Hat

While not as protective as other headwear, this hat does boost the number of items you’ll gain from battle, making it useful for accumulating crafting materials. You’ll need to defeat a special enemy (Captain Cruncher Lv44) along the western end of Shipper’s Wharf in Honolulu to get this hat. This enemy will only spawn Chapter 9 or later.

With high defenses and a Magic boost, the Rainbow Hat is good headwear for magic-users.

Rainbow Hat

Arguably the best hat in the game, at least for casters. This headwear not only boasts excellent base stats (only being two points of Defense and one point of Willpower away from being the best), but it grants the wearer +20 Magic. This boost makes its lack of a special effect forgivable. One will drop every time you defeat the Sector 4 endboss in the "Hawaiian Haunt" iconHawaiian Haunt.

Sacred Steel Helmet

One of the few seven star helmets in the game, this specimen unsurprisingly boasts high stats and a useful special effect, recovering HP every time you defeat an enemy. Having a proc-on-death special effect makes it less useful for boss battles, and the "Wizard Hat" iconWizard Hat’s MP recovery after each fight will probably keep you healthier in the long run, so this doesn’t usually end up being worn. You can farm them by defeating the Sector 4 midboss in Yokohama Underground.

If you've got cash to burn and want some good headwear that boosts your max MP, you can do worse than the Wedding Tiara sold at Julia’s Brilliant Design in Yokohama.

Wedding Tiara

While not as potent defensively as the "Rainbow Hat" iconRainbow Hat, the "Wedding Tiara" iconWedding Tiara still holds its own, stat-wise, and boosts its wearer’s MP by 30. Useful when you want larger reserves, although it’s hard to argue it’s superior to the aforementioned Rainbow Hat, or better at keeping your MP up as the Wizard Hat. You can buy this headwear from "Julia's Brilliant Design" iconJulia’s Brilliant Design along Aloha St. in Honolulu.

"Wedding Tiara" iconWedding Tiara 53 47 Max MP increases by 30 Purchase from "Julia's Brilliant Design" iconJulia’s Brilliant Design on Aloha St., Honolulu for $73.300 each.

The Wizard Hat is comparably easy to farm (defeat the Sector 3 midboss in the Hawaiian Haunt) and since it restores MP every battle, it's great for keeping your MP up while blasting through trash mobs.

Wizard Hat

Perhaps the best early-use headwear in the game, this hat recovers a small amount of MP at the end of every battle. This makes it less useful for boss encounters, but when you’re wandering around clearing out lesser foes, it can help keep your MP reserves up over numerous encounters, which in turn allows you to fight more aggressively, spamming skills and ultimately taking less damage because of it. A great hat to wear when you’re, say, grinding out floors in the Hawaiian Haunt or Yokohama Underground. You’ll get one of these helmets every time you defeat the midboss in Sector 3 of the Hawaiian Haunt, so you can keep doing runs to stock up on these if you wish. We used this hat for most of the game, only swapping it out for the most difficult of boss battles.

Best Body Armor in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

This category is pretty simple, each character and most jobs (save for exclusive jobs) have a unique piece of seven star body armor for them, and aside from special effects, these are relatively comparable, stat-wise. These character/job armors constitute the best body armor in the game, and their stats and locations are as follows:

(1 of 2) The jobs you'll unlock in Hawaii have exclusive armor found in the depths of the Hawaiian Haunt.

Before going through the aforementioned door, turn left (north) to spot the safe containing this armor.

When you first see this armor in Chapter 1, it's little more than a tease. Scrounge together enough money in later chapters, however, and you can buy the most protective body armor in the game.

Great Fortune Gold Undies

Unlike "Knight Armor" iconKnight Armor (see below), the Great Fortune Gold Undies are still interesting despite their lack of a special effect due to their oddly high stats. Boasting a whopping 99 Defense and 99 Willpower, these gilded undergarments are the best body armor in the game… stat-wise, anyway. The special effects (and broader - if not higher - stat spread) on other seven star body armor arguably make it superior, but if all you care about is raw stats, there’s nothing else close. You can purchase these undies from the "Love Magic" iconLove Magic shop in Yokohama for a mere 29,292,929 yen, and since you can technically do this in Chapter 1, they’re also the earliest available seven star armor in the game. Realistically, however, you won’t have a chance to afford these until Chapter 8 at the earliest.

While impressive defensively, Knight Armor just isn't good enough to justify wearing over other armor - this goes for the head, body and legs.

Knight Armor

One of the few bits of seven star armor that isn’t restricted to a specific character or job, it’s also one of the few examples of seven star armor you’ll get from a special enemy instead of from a safe or chest in some dungeon somewhere… although you can also get one from a chest in an endgame dungeon if you don’t mind waiting. All that said, this armor isn’t great - it only has an 11/8 point Defense/Willpower advantage over the "Mirage Coat" iconMirage Coat (see below) and no special effects. Even the less useful seven star armor like Ichiban’s True Hero’s Armor is significantly better due to superior stats.

Knight armor 80 64 1. Defeat special enemy Subjugation-kun (Lv42) south of the "Yoshida Batting Center" iconYoshida Batting Center in Kamurocho. 2. Found in a chest on Nele Island after defeating a boss. You have to swim south to get this.

One of the earliest and best suits of armor you can find, the Mirage Coat has good stats and a special effect that helps everybody.

Mirage Coat

While the aforementioned seven star armor is clearly better (mostly, most of the time), you don’t get most of this armor until very late in the game. Fortunately, there’s a very good stand-in that’s great for every character, and a fine holdover until you start picking the seven star body armor out of late-game dungeons: the Mirage Coat. You can randomly get this armor from any chest in Sector 3 of the Hawaiian Haunt, which mean you’ll need to be at least at the end of Chapter 5 and ideally you’ll be Lv40+ to deal with the enemies lurking in this part of the dungeon. That being the case, it’s not early-game gear by any means… although you can potentially grab it far earlier than any of the seven star armor if you’re up for a grind. While its stats aren’t comparable to the seven star armors, they’re still good, and the evasion buff you can get every turn can help with enemies that primarily use physical attacks. It’s good and everybody can use it, making it great generalist armor.

While not the best body armor, defensively, the Pirate Coat does boost the money you earn in battle by x1.15.

Pirate Coat

Perhaps the least protective body armor on this list, the Pirate Coat isn’t the best at keeping you alive. It is, however, worth mentioning because of its gluttonous special property: It’ll boost all money you earn by 1.15x. If you need cash and can spare a few points of Defense/Willpower, it’ll help you accrue more funds while not leaving you at a substantial disadvantage.

Best Leg Armor in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Of all the types of armor in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, leg armor sure drew the short straw. It’s by far the least interesting armor in the game, rarely doing more than offering an Agility boost. Like headwear, it’s significantly less protective than body armor and while there are seven star specimens out there, there are no “ultimate” variants of leg armor.

Battle Boots

Despite only being six star armor, "Battle Boots" iconBattle Boots are one of the better boots in the game. They feature 53 Defense and 43 Willpower, but also buff the wearer’s Attack by +20, making them fine choices for your physical attackers. You can find a pair in a silver safe near Ebisu Pawn in Kamurocho.

Knight Greaves

Like the "Knight Helmet" iconKnight Helmet, there’s only one thing these boots can boast - the highest base Defense in the game, and even then, only by a single point. This trivial amount of Defense isn’t worth giving up the extra Attack on Battle Boots, or the Agility bonus on "Reverie Shoes" iconReverie Shoes, nor the Evasion on "Sacred Leather Socks" iconSacred Leather Socks. You can pick up a pair every time you clear Sector 3 of Yokohama Underground.

You can get two pairs of Pirate Boots - one from a special enemy in Hawaii (after Chapter 9 begins) and another near the end of the game in the Abandoned Building.

Pirate Boots

These boots aren’t serious contenders for the title of most protective endgame footwear, but their special effect - “Increases EXP obtained from battle - is interesting enough for them to be listed here. Put these on a laggard character to help them catch up. You can get a pair from a chest in the Abandoned Building at the end of Chapter 13, or if you don’t want to wait until the end of the game, you can defeat a special enemy (Tank Commander Lv44), which spawns along the southernmost point of the Shipper’s Wharf in Honolulu (only appears Chapter 9 or later).

Boasting good defensive stats and a bonus to Agility, you'll get a pair of Reverie Shoes every time you defeat the Sector 4 midboss in the Hawaiian Haunt.

Reverie Shoes

They might not have the best raw defensive stats in the game, but they’re awfully close, and they also give an Agility +20 boost, to boot, which makes everybody more effective in combat. What’s not to like? They’re arguably the best all-rounder gear in the game next to Sacred Leather Socks, and since the Sector 4 midboss in the Hawaiian Haunt drops them, they’re far easier to obtain in numbers than any other elite footwear. You can also get a pair from a chest on Nele Island in Chapter 14, but that’s an awful long time to wait for a peak of sneakers.

"Reverie Shoes" iconReverie Shoes 59 48 20 1. Defeat the Sector 4 midboss in the "Hawaiian Haunt" iconHawaiian Haunt. 2. Found in a chest on Nele Island (Chapter 14).

Probably the best all-round leg armor in the game, the Sacred Leather Socks require you to defeat the Sector 4 endboss in the Hawaiian Haunt - probably not something you want to repeatedly do.

Sacred Leather Socks

Technically these are probably the best leg armor in the game. Their stats are only a few points off the "Knight Greaves" iconKnight Greaves and Reverie Shoes, and they have the excellent special effect: “Buffs Evasion by 10%”, which, granted, only applies to physical attacks, but there’s a lot of them out there. The only real downside is that you have to defeat the Sector 4 endboss every time you want a pair (sans for a pair you can find in the Millennium Tower just before the end of the game), which is an absolute chore. Our time on this earth is short enough that we’re fine just settling for the much easier to obtain Reverie Shoes.

Wizard Boots allow the wearer to use their Willpower to mitigate damage instead of their Defense… which typically doesn't have many good use-cases.

Wizard Boots

These are so close to being top tier, if only they buffed Magic a bit… anyways, these boots skimp on Defense in exchange for Willpower, but make up for it by ensuring that the physical damage you take is checked by your Willpower, not your Defense, functionally making Defense a non-issue for this character. In another game, this could be amazing, but in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth almost every other bit of armor you wear is going to give more Defense than Willpower. In fact, the only seven star armor that’s an exception to this rule is the Home Mistress Dress. Some jobs have more Willpower growth than Defense growth, but to actually end up with less Willpower than Defense you’d have to be wearing specific armor and be a "Host" iconHost, "Housekeeper" iconHousekeeper or "Homeless Guy" iconHomeless Guy, and then you’d enjoy a 20-50~ point swing in effective Defense. If you end up in that position, it may be worth considering, but only with "Nanba" iconNanba was this remotely enticing for us.

Armor ATK MAG DEF WLP AGI Special Effects Location
"Wizard Boots" iconWizard Boots 49 60 Physical attack damage is derived from Willpower instead of Defense Defeat the Sector 3 endboss in the "Hawaiian Haunt" iconHawaiian Haunt.

There you have it, you’re now armed with the knowledge of the best armor in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. There should be no challenge too great for Ichiban and "Kiryu" iconKiryu when wearing this equipment.
