The next mission will begin in front of Ryder’s house, so step into the marker to begin. Ryder is a little ticked off about a local pizza place, so he wants to go over there and show them who’s boss. Get in the car with Ryder, knowing that you’ll be driving. The car handles the same way as a bicycle, except for the fact that mashing on the X button does nothing to the acceleration or anything. There are also some on-screen instructions that tell you how to control the camera while driving. Before heading to the pizza place, you decide to go to the barber, Old Reece.

Drive over to the marker on your map and head inside the barber, then approach the marker to sit in the chair and see a list of options for your haircut. If you haven’t done anything else since starting the game, you should still only have $350 on you, meaning your options are limited for your haircut. You are forced to pick one, though, as leaving the barber without choosing a new haircut will not progress the mission. Pick a cheap haircut, then leave the barber to get ridiculed by Ryder, with him telling you to go over to the pizza place to “pack on a few pounds.” Go inside and approach the marker, where you will be able to order a meal.

Now’s a good time to talk about energy, your health, and CJ’s build. If you do not eat, you will lose weight and eventually energy. The red bar shows how much energy you have. When you eat, you gain energy but eat too much and you will become fat. You can press the L1 button to view CJ’s stats, which shows how much Respect, Stamina, Muscle, Fat and Sex Appeal he has currently. If you wish to know more about these stats, visit the Statistics page. While “eating” your meal (you don’t actually eat it), Ryder comes in and holds up the place. This causes the person behind the counter to pull out a shotgun, making you hurry out of the building. Quickly jump into Ryder’s vehicle, as the employee will chase you out of the store, and drive back to Ryder’s house to finish the mission.
