Body Bags

By
Jarrod Garripoli

The Body Bags, also known as the Mass Grave, is a large hole that has been dug in the ground, with six body bags in it. It is located southwest of Verdant Meadows and northwest of Area 69, at the base of a large Mesa formation. There is also a Bocat truck parked next to the hole, suggesting that the vehicle was used to transport the bodies and dump them into the grave. Unfortunately, that’s about all of the information present, since there is no direct connection with anything, nor anyone, else in the game. There are a number of theories about the Body Bags, though, which will be described below.

Mafia

One such explanation that players came up with is that the body bags are connected with the Mafia. Considering Las Venturas is located to the east of the desert, it is quite possible that the Italian Mafia there might have disposed of some bodies in the desert. One example is the Sindacco Family, who were seen digging a grave in the game’s introduction, although that was proven to be in a different area.

Mary-Beth Maybell

Mary-Beth Maybell is the host of the radio station, K-Rose. Multiple times during her broadcasts, she mentions she was married six times and that all of her husbands were “six feet under.” This corresponds to the number of body bags in the mass grave. She is also close to the location of the mass grave, as she broadcasts from somewhere in Bone County, and she also revealed she drives a truck.

Grave Robber

It is also possible that the mass grave was the result of someone who did some grave robbing from another location. For example, there are six gravestones in the Ghost Town, Las Brujas, linking itself a bit to the mass grave. During one of the missions in the story, a NPC is buried in this location and afterwards, the grave seemed to have been dug up, indicated that someone was grave robbing. There are also two other locations that indicated grave robbing, which are Vinewood Cemetery in Los Santos, and Palomino Creek.
