Thick Leather is a mid-game resource that you won’t get until you can take down larger animals. It is used to produce a variety of items, some of the most important of which are better clothes for your character.
You can make Thick Leather using the Tannery.
How to Make Thick Leather in Conan Exiles¶
Thick 
Leather is made from 
Thick Hide, a resource that can be hard to obtain as it comes from bulky animals. Once you have Thick Hide, you simply need to place it in the Tannery to start producing Thick Leather. The ratio from hide to leather is 1:1, so for every Thick Hide you place inside the Tannery you will receive one Thick Leather. In addition to this, you will also get 
Tar as a byproduct.
Where to Get Thick Hide in Conan Exiles¶
Thick Hide can be obtained from fighting larger enemies. These include the likes of Rhinos, 
Elephants, Bears, 
Elk, and Dragons, to name a few. Each of these animals has a larger health bar than your standard Hyenas and Imps that you will come across at the start of the game, so you should have Iron weapons or better to fight them. You will want to target one of the easier, more plentiful animals on this list.
Rhinos can be found rather easily in the Savanna, which isn’t incredibly far from the starting area, and don’t put up as much of a fight as some of the other animals. If you are playing the Isle of Siptah, then they can usually be found near the center of the map. Once killed, you can use a knife to easily get Thick Hide.
What is Thick Leather Used For in Conan Exiles?¶
The primary use for Thick Leather is upgrading armor, upgrading weapons, and making saddles. Saddles can be used to ride different pets in the game, making it a must-have. Outside of these three main uses, there are a few other recipes that use leather. You can find them in the table below.

Repair kits are especially useful for keeping your armor in top shape while you are adventuring. There are also quite a few crafting items you need Thick Leather to make in the table above, like Hardened Leather, Leather Bindings, and Heavy Padding. Thick Leather has many uses and is a material you should always keep on hand.
