Battle Royal is a new way to battle in Alola. Sick and tired of the Battle Tree and looking for a way to earn BP without tearing your hair out? Head for the Battle Royal Dome!

Located past Paniola Ranch, you will have to come here for an exhibition match versus Hau, the Masked Royal (who we all know definitely isn’t Professor Kukui), and Gladion. After that “introduction”, you are free to come back whenever you want to earn BP and prizes.

The Battle Royal Dome is a pretty neat place, but its rules can be confusing to the newcomer. So let’s break it down.

Lv 50 and Species Clause

First things first: Your Pokemon will be set to Level 30 (Normal Rank) or 50 (Super Rank or higher). If they are above this Level, they will be automatically scaled down for Battle Royal. However, if your Pokemon are below this Level, they will not be scaled up, so make sure you bring in Pokemon that are at least Level 30 or 50.

Additionally, you cannot bring duplicates of the same species. In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, a species is defined as sharing one Pokedex number. Therefore, bringing in two forms of "Lycanroc" IconLycanroc is a violation of this clause.

Legendary Ban

All Mythical and “box” legendaries are banned. If it is a mascot legendary like "Lunala" IconLunala and "Solgaleo" IconSolgaleo, it is a box legendary and is therefore banned. Mythical Pokemon are defined as being available exclusively through events.

For your convenience, here are the following banned Pokemon:

As you can see, you can use Legendary Pokemon like "Latios" IconLatios, "Thundurus" IconThundurus, etc. Your opponents can and will use them too. But those specific Legendary Pokemon in the above table are banned.

Ranking

Battle Royal has ranks, and unlike the Battle Tree where you can pick which battle mode you want, you have to work hard to rank up and thus be able to fight in whatever rank you want. Win battles to rank up.

The ranks are as follows, in ascending order:

  • Normal Rank
  • Super Rank
  • Hyper Rank
  • Master Rank

You win BP even if you lose, so if you are here just to farm BP, your best bet for speed and sanity would be either Super Rank or Hyper Rank. Normal Rank nets you very little BP for your time, and Master Rank can easily become an exercise in frustration.
