It’s easy to forget, but this serene garden is where Professor Kukui arranged to meet you right before you left Akala Island. As you go inside, Hau will gleefully run north and block the bridge leading to the center of the area. He says he’s looking for the Professor, but does he know the Professor is just beyond the bridge he’s blocking?

Never mind, it’s a good excuse to look around the garden. From the entrance, first head north to where Hau is. Next, make your way east towards the south-east corner of the garden. Here, there’s a small set of steps leading up to a small pagoda. Go around to the east of the pagoda, either via its south or its north.

On the other side is a tourist walking and up down, and looking furiously for… something. Oh, a fight!

Sightseer Mitch

Pokémon Level Type
"Raticate" IconRaticate 28 Normal

This "Raticate" IconRaticate is the one found in non-Alolan regions. Since it’s not a Dark-type, it’s only weakness is Fighting-types. However it also doesn’t have any strengths to speak of, besides a STAB Hyper Fang. Ghost-types shouldn’t bother since it still knows Dark-type moves.

Carry on north from the east side of the pagoda, past Mitch’s path. Soon, there’s a patch of tall grass you’ll have to wade through. On the other side, there’s even more tall grass ahead, although you can head along the west to avoid most of it. Towards the far corner, above the grassy outcrop is a Grassy Seed.

Retrace your steps until you’re back below the bridge, which Hau is still in awe of. It’s nice to be easily impressed, we suppose–and it is a rather fancy bridge, admittedly. Anyway, travel west, through the short patch of tall grass. On the other side, there’s a young child circling a lantern further west.

Preschooler Nancy

Pokémon Level Type
"Cleffa" IconCleffa 27 Fairy

This baby Pokémon shouldn’t scare anyone, unless you’ve got a Dragon-type with nothing but Dragon-type moves. Which is very unlikely. It can use Sweet Kiss to cause confusion and Copycat to use your moves against you. But they can be worked around.

Next, head directly south-west from the lantern towards the point where the dirt path ends and the tall grass begins. Step through the tall grass to the west and retrieve the Luxury Ball in the corner where there’s no tall grass. Afterwards, go north through the tall grass to get back to the dirt path. Following the path north-east leads to a dead end.

Instead, go directly north from the tall grass. Soon, you’ll discover another patch of tall grass with a tree next to it to the right. It can be tricky without Stoutland to assist you, but if you search the bottom of the tree, you can find a hidden Rare Bone. Moving on, head north through the tall grass, keep towards the west.

Once you’re free, run across the wooden bridge to the north-east. On the other side is another small pagoda and a trainer staring confusedly at the lake. From here, follow the narrow, winding path south-east. At the end of the path, you’ll reach the center of the garden, the long way. You can even follow the path south to bump into Hau.

Anyway, if you want to find Kukui, simply head north-east along this area. The Professor is waiting along the bottom of a quaint rest area. Once he’s up to date with recent happenings, he’ll tell you to wait for him at the bus stop on Route 10. After he’s gone, stay here as there are a few more places to investigate.

Firstly, go north between the red benches in the rest area. To the left of the red parasol at the end is a Rage Candy Bar. Huh, did somebody bring this all way from Johto? Next, go around to the east side of the rest area, past the strangely empty stall. On the east-facing wall of the stall is Totem Sticker #052.

From here, head south towards the dirt path. Then continue south from the west side of the bamboo trees below. Near the edge of the lake, is a pair of Pokémon trainers that you can pester for a Double Battle.

Tourist Couple Landon and Yuriko

Pokémon Level Type
"Vulpix" IconVulpix (Alolan) 28 Ice
"Vulpix" IconVulpix 28 Fire

How cute, this pair both send out "Vulpix" IconVulpix, but one is from Alola and one isn’t. They’re also both unevolved, so this battle is unlikely to stump you. If you have Rock-types, they’re super-effective against both Vulpix; otherwise you can target their individual weaknesses.

Afterwards, travel north-west towards the dirt path, then follow the path north, past the west side of the rest area. Further north, the path will split in two directions. First, follow the path north-east, and through the tall grass at the end. In front of the large pagoda, there’s a Big Mushroom that’s yours for the taking.

Double back to the area just past the rest area. This time, head west, then north-west across small plank bridge. Past the bridge, there’s a tourist looking up and down for a battle. You can sneak past her by running behind her when she’s staring up.

Sightseer Akali

Pokémon Level Type
"Raichu" IconRaichu 28 Electric

Akali has the classic "Raichu" IconRaichu that’s an Electric-type only. So it’s only weak to Ground. On the other hand, since it’s not Psychic, you’ve got less weaknesses to worry about yourself. If you don’t have any Ground-types, Grass or Dragon are good for resisting.

Next, go across the small plank bridge west from Akali. On the other side, there’s a short patch of tall grass followed by a thick patch of tall grass. To minimize encounters, wade through the second patch along its south side. Waiting at the far corner is TM73 Thunder Wave. This useful Electric-type move has a 90% chance to paralyze.

That’s every nook and cranny of the garden checked. When it’s time to leave, summon Charizard and fly back to the Malie City Pokémon Center. From there, you can head west to quickly explore the rest of the city.
