This dilapidated supermarket is the predecessor of the one in Royal Avenue. After the people left Tapu Village, it was left to rot, eventually becoming a haven for the non-living.

What to Bring

Since the place is teeming with ghosts, Dark and Ghost-types are recommended, although the latter is a dangerous choice. Normal-types could also be useful.

For Dark-types, you’ve got "Zorua" IconZorua and "Meowth" IconMeowth from the Trainer’s School and "Murkrow" IconMurkrow from Hau’oli Cemetery to name a few. Likewise, you can find "Gastly" IconGastly at Hau’oli Cemetery or you could evolve a "Cubone" IconCubone into an Alolan "Marowak" IconMarowak. For Normal-types, they should ideally have access to Ghost or Dark-type moves.

That covers the normal ghouls, but the Totem Pokémon is a completely different beast. Because it’s Ghost and Fairy, Dark-types should generally stay away. Instead, Steel-types will be your most valuable allies, especially if given Steelium Z. "Skarmory" IconSkarmory from Route 10 and "Diglett" IconDiglett from Diglett’s Tunnel are possible choices.

Ghost-spotting

Anyway, from the entrance, head north to begin with, then west after the corner. You’ll be alerted to a checkout counter towards the west. Go over and the inspect the suspicious area with your Poké Finder. The troublemaker you’re looking for is floating just above. After taking a picture, you’ll be attacked by a wild Gastly.

This ghostly cloud with eyes and teeth is a Ghost and Poison-type, so it’s weak to Psychic, Ghost and Dark. Naturally, Psychic and Ghost-types should be mindful of being hit by super-effective Ghost moves. Ground-types, while normally super-effective, will be unable to hit Gastly due to its Levitate Ability.

Moving on, continue west along the south side. Very soon, you’ll be alerted to a peculiar shopping trolley further west. Check out the trolley and it’s Poké Finder time again. Again, you’ll need to look up to capture your suspect, although this one is moving around quite fast. Succeed and a wild "Haunter" IconHaunter will attack.

The middle evolution of Gastly is slightly stronger, but can be dealt with in the same manner. Afterwards, go around the colorful table to the right, then proceed north between the table and the leftmost checkout counter. Next, make your way towards the north-west corner of the building, where the frozen section would be.

From the corner, head south-east, then continue east between the shelves. Upon reaching the end of the shelves, you’ll be alerted to a frightening display towards the north-east corner. Go up to the display and pull out your Poké Finder. This time, you need to look to the far left and or right and wait for the specter to hover into view.

Get the timing right and a wild "Gengar" IconGengar will attack. This fully evolved Gastly has very high Speed and even higher Special Attack. On the other hand, it has gained some weight and lost the ability to float, so Ground-types now have a chance. Finally, head west along the back of the supermarket. As you get near, you’ll spot a familiar figure.

No matter what, keep selecting the first option. Once you’re back in control, save your game and make any final preparations, such as putting a strong Steel-type at the front of your party. After that, go into the storeroom at the back. When you’re prompted to use the Poké Finder, try turning around… if you dare.

Totem Pokémon

Pokémon Level Type
"Mimikyu" IconMimikyu 35 Ghost/Fairy

Another Totem that’s returned from Sun and Moon. This "Pikachu" IconPikachu hater is absolutely vicious and has many evil tricks up its sleeve. For starters, it will receive a boost to all stats, making it more threatening than it has any right to be. In addition, its Disguise Ability acts as a free Substitute, negating all damage from the very first attack.

Therefore do not start the battle with an offensive Z-Move! Unlike Substitute, Disguise does not protect from status conditions, but the clever ghost is carrying a Lum Berry to automatically cure status. In terms of weaknesses, "Mimikyu" IconMimikyu only has two: Ghost and Steel. But using a Ghost-type is ill-advised except for finishing the task.

For attacks, it has Shadow Claw for STAB Ghost-type damage, with a chance of ignoring your Defense boosts. On the Fairy side, it has Play Rough, a strong physical attack that can lower the opponent’s Attack. Rounding off its moveset are Leech Life and Slash, which aren’t particularly threatening.

When it’s feeling lonely, Mimikyu can summon "Banette" IconBanette, a pure Ghost-type. This sadistic puppet can use Screech to greatly lower your Defense, Will-o-Wisp to burn and cripple your Attack and Curse to inflict damage each turn. By looking at its moves, you should be able to tell it plays a supporter role.

Otherwise, Mimikyu may summon "Jellicent" IconJellicent, a Water and Ghost-type. This gigantic jellyfish isn’t particularly threatening by itself, but can still be a nuisance. Compared to Banette, it plays more of a chip damage role with its Water Pulse and Night Shade. If you attack it, there’s a chance Cursed Body will disable your move.

This Totem will be the toughest you’ll have faced up to this point. It has exceptional Speed allowing it to easily out-speed most Pokémon and it hits like a truck with its STAB attacks. Furthermore, you need to waste a valuable turn to break its Disguise, so you can actually deal damage, providing it with a chance to call an ally.

Thankfully, there are a few ways to exorcise this spook. Most notably, Steel-types should be able to tank a few of Mimikyu’s hits, or several if they’re called Skarmory. After breaking the Disguise, they can then retaliate with a super-effective Steel-type Z-Move. Alternatively, you can try crippling Mimikyu by lowering its Attack.

Pokémon like "Arbok" IconArbok or "Growlithe" IconGrowlithe with Intimidate are great for this. What you could do is begin with one Intimidate Pokémon, then switch them out for another Intimidate Pokémon, and keep repeating until Mimikyu barely leaves a dent. Banette can lower your Defense and inflict a Curse, but these effects vanish after you switch.

Otherwise, you’ll just have to try your best to brute force the Totem. For example, lead with a Pokémon who’s sole purpose is to break the Disguise and then get KO’d. After that, unleash all your Z-Moves and heavy hitters. Although Mimikyu is strong, it has low HP and cannot recover HP, so this is basically a battle of attrition.

After this, you can return at any time to catch some spooks.
