After clearing Lana’s trial, head south-west from the Route 5 Pokémon Center, along the path with the berry tree. At the corner with the stationary trainer, go a few paces east, then up the path where you picked up the Revive. Use your newly-obtained Fishing Rod at the far end to retrieve Totem Sticker #028 from the pond to the left.

There are a few more stickers like that, but let’s return to Brooklet Hill real quick.

From the entrance, head down to the wooden plank, then summon "Lapras" IconLapras to its south. Paddle south and you’ll come across a small secluded shore that’s home to a lonely fisherman and behind him, a Rare Candy.

Fisherman Hal

Pokémon Level Type
"Tentacool" IconTentacool 16 Water/Poison

A common jellyfish that you’ll likely be seeing a lot more of starting now. Because it’s part Poison, Grass-types should be avoided. Electric, Ground and Psychic-types are all super-effective, although Ground-types will take double damage from Water.

Afterwards, swim back to the other side. If it’s currently raining, follow the path beyond the trial gates towards the first lake. Here, go over to the east side and speak to the man standing away from the wooden pier. Should you be confident in your skills, accept his challenge.

Veteran Johny

Pokémon Level Type
"Wingull" IconWingull 19 Water/Flying
"Mantyke" IconMantyke 19 Water/Flying
"Barboach" IconBarboach 19 Water/Ground

This battle can be tough especially if you just came from the trial. All of Johny’s Pokémon are Water-type and thus inflict 50% more damage during the rain. Even if you change the weather, they’re all carrying Rain Dance to change it back to rain.

Anyway, "Wingull" IconWingull and "Mantyke" IconMantyke are both extremely weak to Electric, and weak to Rock. However sending out a Rock-type is even riskier than normal because of the rain. Meanwhile Barboarch is extremely weak to Grass. Otherwise you could field your own Water-type to deal neutral damage, but boosted by the rain.

That’s all, but you may want to stay in Brooklet Hill and go hunting for Pokémon in the tall grass and underwater. The next trial is the Fire-type trial, so if you don’t have any Water Pokémon, now is the perfect chance to catch some and make your life easier. If not here, then elsewhere on Alola where there’s loads of water.

Once you’ve had enough fun in Brooklet Hill, exit back to Route 5. There, follow the road south-east back to Paniola Ranch. From here, you can head directly south to the "Sudowoodo" IconSudowoodo blocking the road. If you have some spare time though, you could consider briefly returning to the actual ranch, located towards the west, where you befriended "Stoutland" IconStoutland.

Over in the north-west corner, near where the angry "Tauros" IconTauros was, you can fish up Totem Sticker #026 from the pond. That’s pretty much the only reason to go back. Eiether way, approach the Sudowoodo and they’ll run off after seeing your Waterium Z. Before you can proceed though, the Ultra Recon Squad duo arrive to give you a taste of their local wildlife.

Ultra Recon Squad Dulse/Soliera

Pokémon Level Type
"Poipole" IconPoipole 20 Poison

This never-seen-before Ultra Beast is a pure Poison-type; thus it’s susceptible to Ground and Psychic-types. Steel-types are also great since they’re immune to Poison moves. While it appears otherworldly, if you keep calm and treat it like a normal Pokémon, victory should be a breeze.

Triumph this battle of the worlds and you’ll receive a Mystic Water from the little kid watching the fight.
