Borderlands 3

What is Mayhem Mode?

Upon beating the Borderlands 3 main campaign, you’ll unlock a new difficulty modifier, titled Mayhem Mode, which will allow you alter your current game.

What does Mayhem Mode do?

In order to use Mayhem Mode, you’ll have to take the artifact in Sanctuary, opposite Tannis’ lab and place it into one of the three slots there. The right slot will activate Mayhem I, the left will activate Mayhem II and the central slot will activate Mayhem III. Once Mayhem Mode is active, you’ll see a red skull under your XP Bar informing you that it’s currently active.

Each level of Mayhem Mode will always increase the following variables in your game:

Variable Mayhem I Mayhem II Mayhem III
XP +10% +30% +50%
Cash/Eridium +30% +60% +100%
Luck (Rare Drop Rate) +100% +300% +500%
Enemy Health +15% +75% +150%
Enemy Shield +25% +100% +200%
Enemy Armor +25% +100% +200%

As you can see from the table above, you’ll receive greater rewards at the expense of more difficulty enemies. Additionally, new enemy types will spawn and the chance for Anointed grade Equipment can drop from the enemies, further improving the skills of your characters.

This is not all though, as on top of these guaranteed variable changes, you’ll also have to deal with random variables that will be generated when you spawn into any given Zone. Check the table below to see what potential changes you may see:
