Warhammer 40000: Darktide

What are Scab Enemies in Darktide

By
Craig Robinson

There are plenty of enemies in Darktide, including specials, elites, boss monstrosities, and then themed enemies. The two main themed enemies you will encounter are the Scabs and Dregs. The Scabs is the focus of today’s page, as we will take a closer look at their appearance, unit types, and some of the stats you can expect to encounter.

Here is a closer look at the Scab enemies in Darktide.

A closer look at the Scab enemies in Darktide

The Scab enemies are a themed type of enemy in the game. These enemies are typically your traitor Imperial Guardsman, dressed in similar armor, albeit decorated with more chaos-like symbols, such as spikes on their armor or skulls. This ranges from your lazgun shooter-type enemies on the Scab side, to the flak vest wearing plated geezers that run at you with no helmet. The specialists of their faction type also fit the usual theme of even more flak armor, yet still containing the descriptions of the Gunners, Maulers, Ragers, Trappers and other specialist-themed enemies.

The other thing you need to be aware of is that the armor and toughness profiles are noticeably different to Dreg enemies. The basic Scab enemies have armor in most areas of the body. Meanwhile, the cultist melee units don’t wear armor compared to the flak vest melee unit. Therefore Scabs tend to be a bit sturdier, especially in the early levels when your gear is not too fantastic. When you get to higher levels, you’ll likely have more rend, or have weapons that better target the weakpoints on the armored flak-wearing Scabs.

Another interesting standpoint is the Rager enemy type. The Scab Rager is a faster-moving Mauler with its flak armor covering all body parts. However, armor pen moves like Force sword specials, Chainsword, and axes will greatly damage it. On the other hand, the Dreg Rager has no armor, but significantly higher toughness, and takes reduced damage to force sword special movies and other weapons like that. There are a few interesting variations in the Scab vs Dreg main enemy faction type.

In terms of in-game content, there are particular tasks for players to get for fighting Scabs. Some of the weekly missions may require you to kill Scabs using with ranged or melee-themed weapons. Min-maxers out there will likely equip a very good anti-Scab weapon for their ranged or melee weapon so they can easily progress through these weekly challenges.

As for the maps they are on, they are by land large, somewhat random, they tend to share spawns with the Dregs, but often appear on the prison assassination levels, and they are often found on the Smelter Complex zone missions too. It’s worth noting this so you can adapt your build to anti-armor when necessary.

Moreso, Penances in the game allow you to get your hands on laurels for your completionism, such as killing one of each special under the Scab factions, amongst others.
