Warhammer 40000: Darktide

How To Get Aquilas In Darktide

By
Paul McNally

The inevitable scourge of modern-day video gaming is undoubtedly the confusing trend of piling in several in-game currencies and leaving the player to discover what does what. Warhammer 40,000K: Darktide is the latest game to succumb to that trend giving you a number of things you can earn and spend in-game while adding a premium real-cash currency, called Aquilas, that you can buy with your card and spend on in-game cosmetics in the new online storefront.

Now besides a number of the player base objecting to the fact that the cash store is available while certain parts of the game are listed as coming soon if you are interested in pimping your Operator up, how do you do it? What are Aquilas and how much does stuff actually cost?

What Are Aquilas in Darktide?

Aquilas are the in-game premium currency that you have to buy with real money by spending on your credit or debit card. They differ from the Ortho Dockets, Plasteel, and Diamantine that you can pick up as you play the game. Sure these other currencies can be used to buy weapons and even limited cosmetics in-game, but if you want that really standout piece of gear, assume you are going to have to pay for it with your own hard-earned cash.

How To Get Aquilas In Darktide

Before the game came out there was a lot of talk that you would be able to earn Aquilas by fulfilling weekly contracts - indeed you, may still find many game sites peddling that story but it is not true. The only way you can get Aquilas is to buy them outright. And they can only be spent in the online store - The Commodore’s Vestures, which can be accessed from a couple of places - the Main Menu where you can also see your Penances (accessed by pressing ESC) or on board the Mourningstar and visiting the concession there.

Aquilas can be purchased in blocks as you can see in the image above. Buying larger amounts will add a “bonus” extra few there too, in theory making it better value. The issue is that currently, Fatshark is selling bundles in-store that cost 2400 Aquilas, and, of course, you can’t buy that number, meaning you have to make multiple purchases, alongside timed sales which have led to accusations from the community of predatory behavior.

Whatever your take on it this is the system we have and it is not a world away from what we see in many games nowadays, Of course, you do not need to buy the cosmetics - they do nothing more than enhance the look of your character, but just be aware they are not exactly cheap, although as yet certainly aren’t at the levels we have seen in other games such as Apex Legends or CoD.

How To Get “Free” Aquilas

By purchasing the Imperial Edition of the game it will provide you with the following benefits -

  • Loyalist Pack: Purge heresy in style with these 4 unique class outfits, 8 weapon skin patterns, one set of headgear as well as an Ogryn body tattoo.
  • Mortis Veteran Portrait Frame: A cosmetic portrait frame used to pay tribute to the fallen defenders of Tertium Hive.
  • Caducades Backpack: A cosmetic backpack for human characters. Scavenged from the fallen troops of Cadia, this backpack has been repurposed to serve those still alive and fighting.
  • **2500 Aquilas **

With the key thing we are interested in there is the 2500 Aquilas, which is enough to buy you one expensive store bundle. Of course, the Imperial Edition also costs more cash, so not exactly free, but you do get some extra cosmetics as well, and may be your preferred way to support the devs here.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a coop horde shooter, created by Fatshark, the developer and self publishing stdio behind the Vermentide series. In this game, players head to the 41st millennium, using a mixture of Vermentide’s excellent melee combat, with added ranged focus, along with the thematics and threat from the 40k franchise where there is only war.
