Darktide has plenty of enemies, and many weapons that can grant bonus damage or resistance to damage. One of those you may come across is the Groaner enemy type, a horde enemy in the game. Here is everything you need to know about the Groaner enemy type in Darktide.
Groaner Darktide Enemy Type¶
The Groaner is a horde enemy type that appears throughout the game. Groaners are one of the enemies that appear during these times, as well as lurking around the levels too. They tend to share the spawns as Pox Walkers, which is another form of the infested enemy type.
The difference between the Pox Walkers and Groaners is largely a cosmetic-related thing in game. Pox Walkers are the demon-looking horde of human-like enemies. Groaners are the more zombified versions of the horde enemies, typically dressed in more casual clothes, while also looking somewhat like zombies.
For example, you can find these enemies in the Meat Grinder, in their own section of the testing area, separate to the Pox Walkers.
Like the Pox Walker, Groaners are largely melee-related enemies, with no armor. Moreso, these enemies don’t tend to apply corruption to your wounds and health bar, largely thanks to them not fully succumbing to Nurgle like the Pox Walkers. In other words, these are the bog standard melee that possess no armor, with no particular strategy or counter you need to be aware of.
In terms of gameplay, you largely won’t need weapons with traits or perks that bolster you damage again, Groaners. Groaners don’t serve much of a threat, unless you’re taking on mission difficulties that far succeed your gear and character level. You may consider using a weapon that is great horde clearing if you intend to go against Endless Horde condition levels, or for those levels where you need to defend an objective, or clear the area out, but that’s only necessary if your build is focused on horde clearing for your party.
Overall, your Darktide Groaners could be more worthy of note taking. The only time you really need to pay attention to Groaners are when you’re in a very coordinated group, and you’re collecting weapons with different enemy counter buffs for the best chances of creating a solid team and going onto the hardest difficulties and levels.
