Sons of the Forest

All Sons of the Forest Mutant: Strengths, Weaknesses & Counters

By
Craig Robinson

Sons of the Forest is returning its creepy survival horror elements known from its first game. There’s going to be the usual mutant cannibal natives knocking around, as well as some brand new mutants we have not yet seen before. Based on the trailer alone, there’s only really one returning foe, and all the rest are mysterious and fresh for the game. Here’s a closer look at the Sons of the Forest mutants that we have seen so far from trailers.

All Sons of the Forest Mutants: Strengths and Weaknesses

Mutant Notes Moves Weaknesses
Demon The Demon is a special type of creepy in the game. This creature only appears in the lava cave, and you see them throughout the area as you make your way to the end game. Theyb also have a special interaction with the cross. Fast attacks, fast movement. Pump Action Shotgun, "Cross" iconCross stuns them and burns them briefly. Will need to burn them several times to kill them.
"Faceless" iconFaceless The "Faceless" iconFaceless is a cannibal-shaped creature, albeit, lacks any distinctive face qualities, with a translucent skin. This creature is incapable of seeing, and you can find them often in caves, or stung up in cannibal camps. Fast attacks, typically in packs Explosives, stealth and silenced weapons, like the Bow, "Crossbow" iconCrossbow, Compound Bow, "Silencer" iconSilencer Pistol
"Fingers" iconFingers The creature that walks around with its torso to head split open, with the crack in the body containing many fingers. The creature can whip its body, and gain range to attack players. Strong damage, cleave attack, range attack similar to spear reach. Stun weapons, explosives, detect player movement via sound, and not vision, therefore, silenced ranged weapons are much better, like the Bow, Compound Bow, "Crossbow" iconCrossbow, and "Silencer" iconSilencer. They can also be stun-locked by hitting them in the knee, followed by headshots.
John 2B This creature is the large mutant that has one titan cannibal merged with another titan cannibal, merging at their feet. They roll around, hit hard, and can tare packs of cannibals apart. Strong attacks, can swipe, can ranged attack Heavy weaknesses to stronger melee weapon or explosives, like the Machete, "Firefighter Axe" iconFirefighter Axe, Katana. Molotovs also help.
Sluggy The strangest of all mutants ever seen in the Sons of the Forest. This creature only turns up to block an entrance in the Rope Gun Cave, and then to create and block a new exit in the Shovel Cave. Looks like Mr. Blobby. Any explosive
Mutant Baby The Mutant Baby makes a return from The Forest, with their annoying packs flinging themselves at player both on and off the surface. These can harass, you but deal more damage, but can become overwhelming in certain situations. We have yet to work out what days they appear on the surface. !Slingshot themselves repeatedly at you. Annoying armor breakers. Really low HP, weak to blocks, if you know their spawn point in caves you can throw Molotov Cocktail at them and forget they exist.
Slugmutant The Slugmutant is the large mound of flesh that you can see moving around in the Beach cave through the window. You also see it in the cutscene in the second to last Bunker, where Timmy and Eric fight it off, before Silver man turns up. You then find it dead at the end of the cutscene. It appears to be some form of story related variation to the Sluggy, albeit bigger and more menacing looking. Mysterious Died in a cutscene
Twins A new enemy in the game. There is a spider like creature which are actually conjoined twins. There is one more agile female part, and one more aggressive male part. These can climb walls, caves, and structures. Stealth, ambushes, Can go Limp if you beat down the agile female, or pose less threat if you kill the male.
Virginia We know for certain a Virginia is in the game, however, it is a companion that is not as mutated like the ones we see in The Forest. This one possess more feminine, human-like qualities, and has one extra arm and leg. We know for certain she can help you in a fight when you eventually befriend here, as you can give her a Pump Action Shotgun and Pistol. Combat Companion She can take a beating, but she can go down and bleed out. She also has a strong tendency to walk off, so put a Tracker on her if you do befriend her.

There are also a few mysterious enemies in Sons of the Forest. While not yet confirmed in the game, we did see one trailer many years ago show a mysterious hand reach out towards the helicopter crash, drag a person off, followed by a blood splatter. At the time of writing, this is not in the game just yet. However, we know that Endnight do intend on adding more to the game. There is one character not yet arrived, and there’s certainly more to come. Could this hand mutant be the one? We are also told there’s going to be more variations of enemies coming, so expect slightly different themed mutants over the course of early access.

This concludes the Sons of the Forest Mutants overview. Hopefully, you now have a better idea of what each mutant does, what you can expect from there, and know their strengths and weaknesses.
