Remember those underground tunnels we could restore in order to create fast travel points in the previous few Assassin’s Creed games? Well they return in Assassin’s Creed III with a little bit of a difference. Both of the major cities features a maze-like collection of underground tunnels that you can explore.

The goal is to navigate your way through the labyrinth, find and unlock the surface exits. Doing this will also unloack a fast travel point on your map, allowing you to move around the city much more time efficiently.

General exploration tips:

  • You are given a torch upon entering, you can use this to light the torches on the walls so that you can see easier and this can also remind you where you have already been.
  • Keep an eye out above the doors for place names. Following the paths through these doors will often lead to an exit for that specified place.
  • You will occasionally come across special floor plates that you can interact with. Doing so will give you an indication of which direction you will need to go.
  • Also be aware of the arrows stuck on the walls all over the place. They will direct you towards the general location of an exit. If you see an arrow facing the ground, you can activate eagle vision to see where it is supposed to be pointing.
  • Occasionally you will encounter a locked gate. if this is a case, either look for a lever in the immediate area or at the high up walls in the previous room, there is usually going to be a way to climb up and over it to unlock it from the opposite side.
  • Each exit that you find will have to be unlocked either by playing a short rotation puzzle, picking the lock or completing a trickier text and projection puzzle. The lockpicks are simple, the rotation puzzles can be solved quite easily after a bit of experimentation, but the projector puzzles can be quite tricky. As such, I’ve listed the answers below.
