How to Unlock and Upgrade the Police Shotgun

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about the Police Shotgun in Saints Row, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it, how to unlock its Signature Ability.

You can buy the Police Shotgun from any Friendly Fire store for a mere $400.

How to Find and Upgrade the Police Shotgun in Saints Row

The Police Shotgun is… well, a Shotgun in Saints Row, and it can be acquired by purchasing it from any Friendly Fire store location in Santo Ileso. It’ll set you back a paltry $400, and can be purchased as soon as you’re done with the Mission Making Rent.

As with all weapons, the Police Shotgun can be upgraded three times, depending on your level. At level 5 you’ll unlock the tier 1 upgrade, which will set you back $5,000. At level 10 you can upgrade this weapon to tier 2, which costs $25,000. Finally, at level 15 you can max out the weapon by upgrading it to tier 3, which is quite expensive at $100,000. Upgrading the Police Shotgun will increase its Damage, Range, Magazine and Reload Speed.

How to Unlock the Flechette Shells Signature Ability for the Police Shotgun

All weapons have a Signature Ability, which will grant the weapon a special ability when its unlock conditions are met. Unlike normal weapon upgrades, you can’t buy Signature Abilities, which can include boons such as life leech, area-of-effect damage, knockback, full-auto firing mode, armor-piercing rounds, elemental damage and bonus damage over time, and so on. Once a Signature Abilities unlock conditions are met you can activate it by visiting Friendly Fire or using the armory at your HQ. Signature Abilities can also be toggled off, if you prefer.

The Police Shotgun’s Signature Ability is Flechette Shells, which shoots “Sharpened, barbed darts which rip into the target and cause extra bleeding damage.”. To unlock this Signature Ability you must “Get 10 Double Kills.”, which naturally requires you to kill two enemies in quick succession. The Police Shotgun may not be as quick and deadly as the AS3 Ultimax Shotgun, but getting Double Kills is an order of magnitude easier than getting Triple Kills, so you really shouldn’t have to struggle with this one as much. Upgrading the Police Shotgun will still help, as will lowering the difficulty by toggling down the health of your enemies via the Gameplay/Challenge Options/Enemy Durability options. Just remember that while powerful, this gun’s damage output drops dramatically with range, so you want enemies to be close to you.

As with most kill-based goals in this game, this can be grinded out by repeating @TCHA Side Hustles. You probably want to target Idols for this purpose, as they tend to be less durable than other gangs, and when their specialists summon backup you’ll end up with a squad of tightly-packed, fragile enemies just begging to increment your Double Kill counter. Plus, even if a run is a bust you’ll end up with extra cash and XP, which you’ll certainly find useful.
