How to Unlock and Upgrade the MDI-12 Stun Baton

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about the MDI-12 Stun Baton in Saints Row, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it and how to unlock its Signature Ability.

You can snag an MDI-12 Stun Baton from any Friendly Fire shop, but it’ll hit your wallet to the tune of $10,000.

How to Find and Upgrade the MDI-12 Stun Baton in Saints Row

The MDI-12 Stun Baton is a Melee Weapon in Saints Row, and it can be acquired by purchasing it from any Friendly Fire in Santo Ileso, although doing so will cost a hefty $10,000. It can be purchased as soon as you’re done with the Mission Making Rent.

As with all weapons, the MDI-12 Stun Baton can be upgraded three times, depending on your level. At level 5 you’ll unlock the tier 1 upgrade, which will set you back $5,000. At level 10 you can upgrade this weapon to tier 2, which costs $25,000. Finally, at level 15 you can max out the weapon by upgrading it to tier 3, which is quite expensive at $100,000. Upgrading the MDI-12 Stun Baton will increase its Damage and Damage vs Shield.

Perform heavy attacks on Marshall to stun them and unlock the Electrotherapy Signature Ability.

How to Unlock the Electrotherapy Signature Ability for the MDI-12 Stun Baton

All weapons have a Signature Ability, which will grant the weapon a special ability when its unlock conditions are met. Unlike normal weapon upgrades, you can’t buy Signature Abilities, which can include boons such as life leech, area-of-effect damage, knockback, full-auto firing mode, armor-piercing rounds, elemental damage and bonus damage over time, and so on. Once a Signature Abilities unlock conditions are met you can activate it by visiting Friendly Fire or using the armory at your HQ. Signature Abilities can also be toggled off, if you prefer.

The MDI-12 Stun Baton’s Signature Ability is Electrotherapy, which cause “Heavy melee attacks to give you some health.”, a pretty decent upgrade considering the primary function of this weapon is to stun enemies with its heavy attack.

To unlock this Signature Ability you must “Stun 30 Marshall.” which you can do by running around the western half of Santo Ileso (Marshall-controlled territory) and attacking any Marshall you see. To stun an enemy, just run up to them and press DualSense-L2 / Xbox-TriggerLeft - they’ll start to convulse and you’ll see electrical effects around them to signify they’ve been staggered.

Instead of blindly running around hoping to run into Marshall, you can also repeat specific @TCHA Side Hustles, which will allow you to summon a set number of Marshall goons to your location. When you defeat all the marked Mashall your Notoriety will be wiped, making this a simple, controllable way of farming kill. You’ll even gain bonus cash and XP for completing these Side Hustles! Lowering the difficulty will make grinding this Signature Ability much easier.

You’ll need to stun Marshall with an MDI-12 Stun Baton to complete the Cranked Challenge, which will unlock after you complete the Mission [Drawing Heat], so you might want to wait until you complete the aforementioned Mission before you start farming stuns for this weapon.
