Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Trash Recycling Farming and Rewards - Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

By
Nathan Garvin

Getting rewarded for cleaning up trash is nothing new in the Like a Dragon games - one of the first minigames you were introduced to was Can Quest in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, after all. A new venue calls for a new minigame, and in Hawaii you’ll find that The Recycling Center rewards your anti-litterbug inclinations. This page will cover how to find and unlock The Recycling Center, how to farm trash, and what rewards you’ll get for exchanging trash.

On the eastern end of Aloha Beach you’ll find a woman named Yoko, who has a trashy task for you.

The Recycling Center - Trash Points and Rewards

To start this minigame, you’ll need to head down to the eastern end of Aloha Beach. This can be done as early as Chapter 3, after you fight your way into Revolve and the following morning complete the obligatory Substory 5 - Welcome to Hawaii MFer!, although heading down there with just Ichiban and Kiryu is arguably not the best time to start farming trash (waiting until Chapter 5 will make things easier). In any event, you’ll want to head southwest of the Aloha Seaside restaurant to find a blonde “woman in bikini” named Yoko. She’ll greet you automatically if you get close, and don’t worry - she’s not going to assault your earholes or break up the most popular band in the world. Instead, she wants you to collect trash and bring it to her. Don’t judge, she has her reasons, and more importantly she’s willing to reward you for doing the ethical thing you were already doing anyways. Simply put, collect trash, return it to Yoko, get points, trade points for useful things - the points you’ll get varies depending on the trash you collect, as follows:

Trash Points
Cans 10
Plastic Bottles 30
Magazines 50
Glass Bottles 100

Not sure why glass bottles are worth so much when plastic bottles are so much worse for the environment, but that’s not really a debate worth having. Any who, here are the rewards you can exchange your trashy points for:

How to Farm Trash - Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth

Trash plagues the beaches of Hawaii, and you can turn this sad fact of parasitical human overconsumption to your advantage by picking it up and delivering it to Yoko for points. You can’t target what kind of trash you’ll find - RNG rules the day here, too - so you’ll need to take a more generalist approach to farming trash. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far to start farming, as there are two prime sources of trash nearby.

  • Mounds of Sand: Littering the beach are mounds of sand. These don’t appear promising, and you aren’t given a prompt to interact with them when you approach, but if you run over them you’ll dislodge the sand and reveal a shiny, which will very often be a random piece of trash (or seaweed). The developers saw fit to have mercy on you, as you can simply sprint down the beach, run over mounds of sand while mashing DualSense-ButtonCross / Xbox-ButtonA to quickly pick up trash on the go. Just be wary, as some mounds of sand are actually Sand Bagger enemies.

(1 of 3) If you prefer surf over turf, head into the water to find golden rings, which indicate diving spots.

  • Dive Spots: If you’d rather get your everything wet, you can also just run into the ocean and swim around. It shouldn’t be long before you spot golden glowing rings in the water, which indicate dive spots. Just swim over and dive when prompted and you’ll shortly surface with some item or another - hopefully trash, but RNG gonna RNG. You don’t have to worry about enemies via this approach, but you can’t farm diving spots on the run, and you do have to be wary of nearby boats. They’re not swimmer friendly and if they doink Ichiban you’ll sustain 50 damage.

Whether sprinting or swimming, scour the coast for mounds of sand or diving spots, respectively, and you’ll accumulate a steady influx of trash. If you wait until you’re strong enough to Smackdown the Sand Baggers, this will be an even easier process, and while it can be tedious, getting the odd crafting component or damaging accessory can pay off.
