There are two rare, high-end crafting materials required to create nearly every seven star weapon in the game - Shark Fins and Squid Tentacles. While the former pulls more weight - being used by 14 of the game’s 24 craftable weapon types, that still leaves ten jobs whose seven star weapon requires Squid Tentacles in order to craft. If you want to get your hands on the absolute best weapons in the game for just under half the jobs, you’re going to need to find out how to score Squid Tentacles, and this page will provide information about how to obtain these slimy, elusive crafting materials in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
- Where can you find Squid Tentacles in LIke a Dragon: Infinite Wealth?: While the odd Squid Tentacle can be found at various points, the best way to reliably get these materials is by trading trash at The Recycling Center (1,000 points = 1x Squid Tentacles) or by exchanging Geomijul’s Survey Data with Utamaru (18,000 data = 1x Squid Tentacles). You’ll find Gemijul’s Survey Data by exploring the [Yokohama Underground] from Chapter 10 onwards.
Squid Tentacles Locations in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth¶
You’ll be introduced to weapon crafting in Chapter 4 via Substory 20 - A Better Bat, which requires you to - what else? - upgrade Ichiban’s weapon to something more formidable. While you can ignore this mechanic going forward, crafting and upgrading weapons is often cheaper and more efficient than simply buying new weapons, and there’s a higher power ceiling on crafted weapons than weapons you can obtain by other means. That said, the more powerful the weapon, the rarer the materials needed to create it, and when it comes to seven star weapons (the highest grade of weapon) you’ll need to either provide a Shark Fin or some Squid Tentacles. 10 of the game’s 24 jobs have seven star weapons that require Squid Tentacles as their rarest upgrade requirement, and while this is in the minority, it’s still nearly half of the jobs out there. Chances are, a job you fancy is going to need some squiddy bits to reach its damage apex.
Below you’ll find a list of all the jobs and their seven star weapons that require either a Shark Fin or Squid Tentacles to create:
Now that you know you need Squid Tentacles, here’s how you get them (note that Squid Tentacles are, for whatever reason, generally a bit rarer and more late-game than Shark Fins, albeit with one exception):
-
Let’s start with that one exception. Find a woman named Yoko on Aloha Beach (you’ll automatically trigger a scene when you approach her location, southwest of the Aloha Seaside restaurant) to start The Recycling Center minigame. Plunder mounds of sand on the beach and dive at dive spots just off the coast and you’ll regularly find trash. These aren’t consolation prizes. These are, in this case, the goal, as Yoko will give you points for the trash you find, and you can exchange the points you earn for turning in trash for rewards, including Squid Tentacles. Trading Yoko trash for a unit of Squid Tentacles will set you back 1,000 points. This takes a fair amount of running about, but aside from the odd creep masquerading as mounds of sand, the swimmer-ramming boats in the water, and the enemies wandering the shore, it’s not a dangerous endeavor.
-
The Hawaiian Haunt is one of your sources of Shark Fins but offers little in the way of Squid Tentacles. You’ll get one unit of Squid Tentacles by rescuing all people from the Hawaiian Haunt, including the EX levels (Sector 4).
-
While the Hawaiian Haunt offers little in the way of Squid Tentacles, the Yokohama Underground optional dungeon (unlocks in Chapter 10) is more generous. Not only can you randomly pull these out of suitcases (at least in later sectors), but you can trade 18,000 Geomijul’s Survey Data for a unit of Squid Tentacles. Geomijul’s Survey Data is the Yokohama Underground equivalent of the Hawaiian Haunt’s Data Disks, and a man named Utamaru plays the role of Robo Micho inasmuch as he’s the one you talk to in order to exchange items.
-
Finally, if you’re really willing to wait, you can get two Squid Tentacles in Ichiban’s final dungeon, one from a boss, and one from a dive spot after said boss.
