Fern Outskirts¶

Pick up the Gondorian Coin (left) and investigate the “Tol Acharn” Ithildin (right).

Head west through Thang Talath to reach the Fern Outskirts, your goal being the Fern Outskirts Forge Tower. Once reforged you’ll notice-if you check the map-that there are no fewer than three Bow Misisons we can complete, two in Fern Outskirts, and one in Thang Talath. There are also two Artifacts and an Ithildin in the Fern Outskirts, the first of which, a Gondorian Coin , is just west of the Forge Tower, on the top floor of a ruined tower.

Next up is the Bow Mission “There is No Escape” to the north, if you feel like tackling that now. If you haven’t been buying Elf-Shot and Focus upgrades, you might want to wait on this, though. Along the eastern edge of the area is the Bow Mission “Shadow and Flame” , which again, is easier if you have a lot of Focus. When those are done (or if you’re not up for them right now) head south-east from the Forge Tower and climb your way onto an elevated little “island”. A bridge connects this bit of high-ground to another, larger one to the south-east. Head over to that bridge and drop down to a ledge beside the bridge and search under a foundation to find the Scrimshaw, Mumak Tusk Artifact. Kind of seems like we did this before, doesn’t it? Whatever. Continue walking along the foundations of the bridge to the south-east to find the “Tol acharn” Ithildin on one of the foundations. Artifacts and Ithildin must like bridges.

Thang Talath¶

Cross the bridge to the south-east, then turn east and scale ledges to the east to reach Thang Talath. A short way to the east, in a depression, is the Bow Mission “The Secret Flame” , which is pretty easy compared to the two in the Fern Outskirts. In the caves to the south you’ll find a generous haul of mushrooms, enough to complete Survival Challenge 8 , in fact, which requires you to harvest two Naugrimbas (white mushroom), three Carandol (orange mushroom), and two Orchamarth (green mushroom). In the man-made chamber (in which the main objective of “The Secret Flame” occurs) you’ll find the “Galad na ’Lambhoth” Ithildin.

The north is the Dagger Mission “A Knife in the Dark” , which requires the “Brand” and “Stealth Brand” Abilities, so we won’t be bothering with it yet. Further norther, in the narrow northern-most sliver of the level you’ll find the Torn Banner Artifact, which is located in front of an arch. Before you go, consider making progress on Survival Challenge 9 , which tasks us with harvesting seven Athelas (blue cross). This stuff is located… pretty much everywhere in Nurn, but you do need a bit of it, so pick it up as you find it. Survival Challenge 10 , the final Survival Challenge… eh, doesn’t require much effort. To satisfy this objective you’ll need to harvest three Blue Milk (blue mushroom), two Elgaran (orange cross) and two Gwinuial (white arrow). The Harad Basin, Thang Talath, Fern Outskirts, and Tirith Mesas areas all contain all three of these herbs, making this an easy challenge to complete.
