One of the ways to deal with excess loot in Path of Exile 2 is to disenchant it. This will give you much-needed materials to enhance other gear and to progress with your character. Read on to find out how to disenchant and what you can do with the materials obtained from it.

How to Disenchant¶
Firstly, you can only disenchant gear that is at least of the magic quality (blue), so no disenchanting the bad white drops you keep getting, unfortunately. Once you have a few pieces of gear that meet those requirements, you should head over to Una in the Clearfell Encampment, who is sitting near the campfire in the center of town. After speaking to her, select Disenchant by clicking it, or pressing the associated button ( / ), and you’ll get a pop-up box that notes the following:
- Una’s Offer
- Your Offer
- Your Inventory
Select the piece of gear from your inventor (must be at least magic quality), and either drag it over to Your Offer or press the associated button. Once you’ve done that, Una will show you what she will give you for that piece of gear, which will be a Transmutation Shard for a magic item, and a Regal Shard for a Rare item. Collecting ten of either item results in an Orb of that type.
The Orb of Transmutation allows you to upgrade a normal-quality piece of gear into a magic piece with one modifier. In contrast, the Regal Orb allows you to upgrade a magic piece of gear into a rare piece with one modifier. Note that disenchanting any piece of gear will destroy it, so make sure you don’t need it anymore.
How to Salvage¶
You won’t be able to salvage at the beginning of the game, and you’ll need to unlock it by completing the Finding the Forge quest, which is available toward the end of Act 1 in the Ogham Farmlands. Once you’ve completed the quest, a salvaging bench will be available in Clearfell Encampment. Using the salvage table as opposed to disenchanting gives you Armorer’s Scraps for salvaging armor while salvaging weapons (with quality) will provide you with Blackstone’s Whetstone for martial weapons and Arcanist’s Etcher for Caster weapons. Blackstone Whetstone’s and Arcanist’s Etchers will improve the quality of the respective weapon.
Finally, if you salvage gear with rune sockets, you’ll get Artificer’s Shards, and obtaining ten of these will give you the Artificer’s Orb that allows you to add a rune socket to a piece of gear.
