At around the midpoint of Act 2 (generously) you’ll encounter this act’s boss, Jamanra, the Risen King. Deal enough damage to chase this foe off and you’ll be able to progress to the (more than) second half of the act. This page will provide strategies for defeating Jamanra, the Risen King in Path of Exile 2.
Page Breakdown¶
Jamanra, the Risen King Location¶
You’ll encounter this boss in The Halani Gates area, but the first time you visit you’ll make the startling discovery that gates can be closed. The nerve! This forces you to take a detour through the Traitor’s Passage, circumventing the gates. When you arrive, summon Sekhema Asala and she’ll accompany you through the area, turning some large wheels to open gates for The Ardura Caravan. Pass through several of these and you’ll come face to face with Jamanra, the Risen King.
Jamanra, the Risen King Boss Strategy¶
Jamanra, the Risen King awaits you in a smallish square arena, where he’ll make a half-hearted attempt to dispatch you. This fight will give you a glimpse of what lies in store for you at the end of the chapter, but it does feel like more of a warmup than a proper fight, with Jamanra possessing a limited repertoire of attacks. Still, he’s got the odd trick up his sleeve, and the limited space you have to maneuver can give you trouble. His attacks will be covered below:
Lightning Ray¶
You read that right, it’s not a “lightning bolt”, Jamanra has an attack that can only rightfully be called a “lightning ray”, where he’ll shoot a beam of concentrated electricity from an outstretched hand. This deals moderate damage in a line, and while Jamanra likes to cheap shot you with it at the start of the fight (dodge as soon as he starts moving!), he’ll begin using regularly after he’s been injured.
Lightning Orb¶
Dodging Jamanra’s attacks isn’t that difficult, so to spice things up your foe will summon an orb of electricity that slowly meanders across the arena. It doesn’t seek you out, but the arena is small enough that it doesn’t really matter - it’s functionally an environmental hazard you need to watch out for.
Sword Combo¶
Jamanra fancies himself a swordsman, and along with his lightning magic, his blade will be his primary form of offense. His swordplay includes numerous swings that deal little enough damage that you need not concern yourself with them all, but you should be on the lookout for a floating, three hit combo he’ll perform that’s somewhat more painful. Jamanra likes to point his sword at you before launching these spinning attacks in succession, pausing after each one. The damage is only moderate and they’re not that hard to dodge so long as you’re not spamming the dodge button and actually dodging with deliberation.
Jamanra will keep using the Lightning Orb and Sword Combo attacks until you reduce his Life to around 80%, at which point he’ll add a few more attacks to the mix, including the Lightning Ray he used at the beginning of the fight. In addition he’ll add the following to his arsenal:
Sword Spike and Explosion¶
Probably Jamanra’s most dangerous attack, he’ll spike his sword into the ground, dealing moderate AoE damage when it impacts, then energy will gather in a ring around the planted sword before exploding, damaging the area not affected by the initial sword spike explosion. Avoid the initial toss, and when the sword is stick in the ground, head over to it so you’re inside the ring to avoid damage - essentially this attack is a two stage AoE that his the entire arena, albeit at different times.
Between his sword combos, lightning orb and lightning ray, Jamanra can throw a steady stream of offense at you, even if he doesn’t really have all that many attacks. His Sword Spike and Explosion attack is used more rarely, livening up the fight a bit. If it wasn’t for the limited size of the arena, Jamanra the Risen King wouldn’t be much of a fight. As it is, however, you’ll need to stay on your toes and learn Jamanra’s tells - he telegraphs every attack, once you know what to look for.
Deplete his health to around 30% and Jamana will summon a sandstorm, spawning Volatile Scarabs to harass you while he floats around safely out of reach. Survive this onslaught and he’ll fly away, abandoning the fight. Pursue him and you’ll find your path blocked by a sandstorm, an obstacle you’ll need to complete the quests A Theft of Ivory, The City of Seven Waters and A Crown of Stone to overcome. Worse still, you don’t even get any drops from Jamanra, even though he’ll respawn at The Halani Gates, if you want to fight him again, for whatever reason.
