Sub-Scenario: The Two Grandsires

By
Vincent Lau

Finally, haul yourself to the top floor of Vampire Castle (they really need to install an elevator…) and speak to Lord DeRosso for another friendly rematch. As soon as the battle begins, his old friend–the Conjurer Yulyana–will pop in to assist him. Enjoy your battle with the two strongest men in Luxendarc…

Boss: DeRosso and Yulyana

Level HP Weak to
60 99,999 (DeRosso), 95,000 (Yulyana) Light (DeRosso), Nothing (Yulyana)

In terms of the setup, this battle doesn’t sound tough; DeRosso and Yulyana’s stats remain unchanged from previous battles and they both have reduced HP, as per the quota for group battles. What makes them difficult though is their range of powerful moves, which when combined can easily floor your party.

By this stage, DeRosso’s Energy Burst shouldn’t be too deadly and you ought to know the proper timing to brace for it–the moment DeRosso gains 1 BP from Battle Thirst. Similarly, his Bone Crush can easily be avoided if your healer is fast enough (give them the Hermes Shoes!).

Rampart and Utsusemi–all too familiar abilities–help to keep Yulyana’s hard-hitting physical moves at bay. Just bear in mind the possibility of DeRosso’s attacks getting rid of your protection before it’s Yulyana’s turn. DeRosso’s Graviga is what really throws a wrench in your plans, taking off 3/4 of your HP with 50% chance–especially dangerous if Yulyana follows with Meteor.

For a safe battle, you can rely on a high Speed character using the Spiritmaster’s Stillness to keep the entirety of damage at bay. Try to have super-speedy characters like Ninjas unleash their attacks before Stillness comes into effect for best results.

Our favourite strategy? Have three Pirates Dual Wield the Earth Breaker from Dimension’s Hasp (during the Finale or The End) and five Giant’s Axes from Gigas Lich (or similarly strong weapons), then unleash 4 lots of the Vampire’s Firestorm on the first turn. With the right setup and buffed by a Performer’s Love Power twice, you can score in the region of 9000 damage–which when dealt 12 times will fell both in one turn!
