Sub-Scenario: Merchant Asterisk

By
Vincent Lau

This job asterisk is much less of a chore to obtain, but first you must have gained the Thief asterisk. At the end of that sub-scenario, Tiz and company will discover a note revealing Profiteur is amongst the guilty party.

Return to the city of Ancheim and enter the large building by the eastern edge of the city, where Profiteur’s HQ is located. Inside, approach Profiteur to interrogate him; before long he will reveal his true colors and another heated battle commences!

Boss: Erutus Profiteur and Khint

Level HP Weak to
15 6000 (Profiteur), 5000 (Khint) Nothing

Khint shows his face again; like before, don’t attack him unless necessary as he’ll abandon Profiteur midway through the battle. Compared to The Jackal, Profiteur isn’t much harder to take down–however thanks to his excesses of cash, he’s got more than enough ammo to drive you out of the market.

More accurately, Profiteur will Default every now and then–this is a sign that next turn he’ll use Takeover twice, which deals 300 damage exactly–typically none of your party members will have over 600 HP, so two hits will result in a K.O.

The key to winning this battle is to keep your HP high whenever you can (with Potions or Cure) and cross your fingers that Profiteur doesn’t use Takeover on the same character twice. It also wouldn’t hurt to stock up on Phoenix Downs from the shops.

The turn Profiteur attacks twice, you should attack with your characters and group-cast Cure; don’t bother Defaulting as it won’t reduce his damage output (you can afford to spam Stomp for the same reason, but watch out for Khint’s attacks). Profiteur’s attack pattern doesn’t change even when Khint leaves, so just keep hanging in there.

The scandals aren’t quite over though, as Ringabel will discover yet another note related to Ancheim’s dodgy dealings–apparently something special will happen should you visit the Grand Mill Works at night.

If you’ve been playing these sub-scenarios as soon as they appeared, you won’t be able to visit the Grand Mill Works just yet, so we’d better return to the main story then. Before you leave, inspect Profiteur’s room carefully to find a Gold Hourglass and Teleport Stone.
