A Sign of Hope Mission Location¶
You won’t be able to start the A Sign of Hope mission until you progress the main missions in the Wild Island region, this starts with the Hot on the Trail main mission, in which your main task is to gain access to the Noontide Base (Map Marker). This is simple if you showed the PDA back in the Slag Heap to get your hands on the Ward Badge, this will allow you to simply stroll on through the Checkpoint and walk up to the Noontide Base without any hassle.
If you don’t have that, though, you’re going to need to go the long way, by completing the A Heavy Burden side mission given by one of Scar’s men. Regardless of how you get there, progress through Hot on the Trail until after you meet Strider for the first time. At this point, he’ll send you off to meet Prof. Lodochka (Map Marker) to see if you can pinpoint a signal and during your conversation with him, you can ask if he needs help with anything, starting A Sign of Hope.
Get to the Roof¶
The antenna, as you might expect, is located on the roof of Noontide Base, and this is what the majority of the mission involves, as the route up there isn’t as straight forward as you may expect. From Lodochka’s Lab, head back out and run towards Noontide Base, staying on the higher elevation where possible (you don’t want to be on the ground floor) and as you reach the wall, head along it to find some broken stairs leading to a door.
Go through the door and follow the linear path up some wooden planks until you find more stairs taking you higher. In the next room, drop down to the pipes and walk to your left, then cross over to the other side and back outside to the other side of those broken stairs. You can take these stairs up to the roof at this point where you’ll get a call from Khors, a Technician who pleads with you not to shoot Kvashka as he believes he can still be saved. Keep this in mind as you continue your ascent as you’re going to need to make a decision.
You’ll see some stairs up directly in front of you, but ignore those for now and instead head around the back to find a tower you can climb that will get you where you need to be. This is now the time you’re going to have to make a decision.
Kill or Leave Kvashka¶
Prof. Lodochka has said there’s nothing to be done for Kvashka and asks that you put him out of his misery, while Khors believes there’s still a chance he can be saved from his Zombie-like state. There’s no right or wrong answer here, if you do as Lodochka says, the mission completes as normal and you slightly upset Khors, who will remember what you did.
If you instead decide to spare Kvashka, you’ll still get your reward from Lodochka at the end of the mission along with a nice bonus of 2,500 Coupons later when you speak to Khors again, this is by far the best option to go with when deciding what to do (beyond the moral dilemma).
Deactivate the Antenna¶
Once you’ve made your decision regarding Kvashka, start climbing the ladder of the tower and you’ll spot him, either shoot him from the safety of the tower, or get ready to make a run for the antenna once you jump across to the highest point of the roof from the top of the tower. You can’t miss the antenna from here, simply run up and flip the switch and you’ll shut it off, fulfilling the main objective.
Return to Prof. Lodochka at his lab following this, he’ll comment about the spread of madness if you did spare Kvashka, but otherwise, be satisfied that you shut off the antenna and hand over the Bear Detector, an improvement over the basic Echo Detector should you still be using it. Don’t forget to pay Khors a visit if you spared Kvashka and claim your Coupons for your troubles.
