Meet up with Diode¶
You may not have got the exact information you were looking for from Nestor, but you still have some new information you have learned so it’s time to make your way back to Diode to deliver the news. As you begin making the short trek back from The Plant (Map Marker), you may notice the sight of a helicopter heading in the direction of the Slag Heap, that can’t be good.
Once you reach the entrance, it’s a good idea to make a hard save here, as you’re shortly going to have to make a major decision. Return to where Diode is and you’ll find that he’s not here anymore, instead, a soldier of the Ward is here and waiting for you and tells you to head to the first floor to find him. Head back into the main room and go through the bar to find a door with some stairs, take these up a level and then approach the door to trigger a scene.
Show the Unusual PDA or Not¶
This is the first of two major choices you’ll get during Back to the Slag Heap, and this will massively impact on how both the Ward and the Stalkers see Skif. Below, you’ll find the outcomes of this major choice:
-
If you show the Unusual PDA, Col. Korshunov will hand it back over and you’ll be seen as working with the Ward. To aid you in this, you’ll be given the Ward Badge that will get you into some areas a lot easier.
-
If you don’t show the Unusual PDA, you’ll be treated as Stalker scum in the eyes of the Ward and then let go. This will allow you to continue your good relationship with Star and the Sparksters shortly.
Regardless of how you answer this question, you’ll eventually get to leave the meeting with Korshunov (don’t forget the Combatant on the table before you leave!) and as you go to leave the Slag Heap, Richter will ask to have a chat with you outside. After giving you some more life lessons in The Zone, he suggests you head to the Sawmill.
Get to the Sawmill¶
Open up your map to learn that the Sawmill is just inside the Wild Island region, where the next set of main missions will take place. To get there from the Slag Heap, head southeast and you’ll eventually reach a warehouse here, where you’ll be directed to meet with the leader of the Sparksters, the group you worked with back in Answers Come at a Price and you’ll learn that the mysterious Stranger is none other than Scar, where you’ll get another choice.
Show Scar the Unusual PDA or Not¶
Much like the previous choice you just had at the Slag Heap, you’ll get the same choice to make here with Scar. If you’ve already shown the PDA to Korshunov at the Slag Heap, this choice is just a formality, Scar will not trust you and while he won’t do anything rash, he will say to watch your head, effectively ending any association with him and the Sparksters. If you didn’t show it, though, here is what you can expect from the two choices:
-
If you Show Scar the Unusual PDA having not shown it back at the Slag Heap, you’ll be directed to meet with Strider on the island, of which they will help you get on there.
-
If you don’t show Scar the Unusual PDA, they’ll decide to leave you to your own devices for now, but will still suggest seeing Scar. You won’t have access to the island though, so you’ll need to seek out Mute nearby and complete his side mission, A Heavy Burden to gain access.
At this point, Back to the Slag Heap comes to an end and Hot on the Trail begins which, regardless of any of your choices, requires you to meet with Strider at the Noontide Base but how you get there will be based on your previous choices.
