Monster Hunter World

Tickled Pink

By
Nathan Garvin
Quest Info
Objective: Hunt an Anjanath
Reward Money: 9000z
Time Limit: 50 min.
Conditions: HR 11 or higher
Failure Conditions: Time Expires / Faint 3 Times
Other Monsters: Apceros / Kestodon / Nolos / Gajalaka

Despite the allusions to “pinkness”, there’s nothing at all new about this Anjanath… well, save its locale. And it is high rank. That said, however, the high rank Anjanath is nowhere near the “pink wall” that its lower rank counterpart was. Sure, Anjanath is still Anjanath, and this one will do more damage (its breath attack especially can one-hit kill, but it’s also very easy to dodge), but you have access to a wider variety of items, tools and gear now. The Anjanath’s attacks are virtually identical this time around, and… well, it really couldn’t get more aggressive than it already was.

Capture the Anjanath, or kill and carve it, after which you’ll be back in Astera where, sure enough, the Meowscular Chef upgraded the Canteen one more time. With this assignment out of the way you can freely continue your search for this “??? Rathian”. Once you fill that research bar up, you’ll be prompted to return to Astera again and talk to the Chief Ecologist to start the next assignment Old World Monster in the New World.

That’s right, the high rank Anjanath was just a diversion along the way, but that doesn’t mean it was a complete waste of time. Aside from the upgraded Canteen, there should be a variety of new delivery requests and the odd optional quest you can pick up in Astera now, which you can work on while trying to finish up your research on the “??? Rathian”. These will be covered below, as will the one new optional quest you can unlock, after which you’ll find the next story assignment Old World Monster in the New World. Let’s get on with it, then!

Melding Decorations

Talk to the Elder Melder and after having to watch her work for a bit she’ll chat with you, informing you that she’s learned a few new melding tricks, allowing you to meld decorations! This works much like melding items, on the left “Decorations List” menu you’ll have the decorations that can be melded (which cost Research Points and Melding Points, of course), and on the right is the “Materials (Decorations)” list. Essentially, sacrifice unwanted decorations to earn the Melding Points necessary to create new decorations. Right now her selection is pretty limited, but this will change soon enough.

Armory R&D: Weatherizing

Talk to the Armory clerk and she’ll inform you that she’s at it again; the creation of a new hunter tool is imminent, she just needs a few more materials to complete it. This will start the deliver request Armory R&D: Weatherizing, which can be fulfilled by turning in a Paolumu Pelt+, a Paolumu Wing, and 1,500 Research Points. Complete this delivery request to earn a Iceproof Mantle.

GAINS After the High Rank Anjanath

As is usual after completing assignments, the Meowscular Chef will have another quest ready for you in his constant drive to buff up his menu. Talk to him and he’ll give you the quest Chef Quest! A Rotten Request. This will be covered below.

This guide features a full, beginning-to-end walkthrough written in an “ideal chronological order of events” format. Main quests are interspersed with side quests in the order in which they unlock, although some side quests and arena challenges may only be referenced instead of fully explained. These are typically quests that have you facing a monster you’ve already fought under similar circumstances that offer no unique reward for completion. For example, after completing most main quests you won’t be able to attempt that quest again, but you’ll usually unlock an identical side quest allowing you to hunt the same monster in the same area with the same success/failure conditions.

Monster strategies will be discussed in detail as you encounter them throughout the walkthrough, featuring elemental and status information and drop lists. The guide also features a fully detailed bestiary for those who just want information about specific monsters unaccompanied by a walkthrough. Trophy/achievement information can also be found in a separate trophy/achievement guide, although be warned: many trophies/achievements in Monster Hunter World are easier said than done.

Other features of this guide include:

  • Information on crafting/harvesting.
  • Side quests that unlock mantles, ingredients and other useful features.
  • Field Researcher quests including where to catch rare fish, how to capture small monsters, and where to locate Grimalkynes/Gajalaka.
  • Grimalkyne/Gajalaka quests.
  • How to upgrade the Ancient Tree/Harvest Box and how to unlock various fertilizers.
  • How the Elder Melder works, melding different items and decorations.
  • Where to find the Powertalon and Armortalon, and how to upgrade them into the Powercharm and Armorcharm.
  • Detailed information on how to unlock Tempered Monsters, the difference between Threat Level 1, 2 and 3 Tempered Monsters.
  • Information on Feystones, including drop rates, the differences between the types (Mysterious, Gleaming, Worn and Warped).
  • How to get Warrior’s Streamstones and Hero’s Streamstones.
